Just picked up another toy (AR-15)

I just pick up my Cal legal AR-15. Boy I can't keep my hands off em. The lower receiver is CMMG, upper DPMS flattop with front and rear folding sights. 10/30 round fixed magazine. Here are some pictures of her...

Re: Just picked up another toy (AR-15)

wow nice AK

Edit: Always wanted to pick up an AK but never did. I got a mini 14 that looks pretty nice. I’m not big fan of the AR15. Any gun that needs a door to keep the dust out of the ejection port is too finicky for me. The assist also seems like band aid solution to me. What other major military assault rifles have those two features?

I havent heard many people that prefer a mini-14 vs. an AR platform. You are an exception obviously. If the only gripe you have with the piece are those two features then in my eyes that's not bad. Your mini-14 is nowhere near as solid and secure as an AR. And what about ease of cleaning and repair? I own a mini-30 and a few AR's......can't seem to find myself picking the mini over the AR for anything other than plinking, and even thats hard.

To the owner of the thread & new gun congratulations!!!! I love the way you displayed it on those candle holders.

Congrats on the new gun. I am saving up for my next toy, before hillary or obama get elected. http://www.serbu.com/50bmg/semi_auto.php

Re: Just picked up another toy (AR-15)

When I picked the gun up, the guy at the store said that if, i mean when a democrat comes into office, california especially is going to feel the effects. He mentioned how they are going trying to ban magazine fed rifles in the next years. That's why I'm doing my shopping now. I'm going to buy couple more stripped lower receivers for more builds.

I have a mini 30, and I don't think i'll pick that over the ar or ak. When I take my mini 30 and ak out to the range, I have more jamming and extraction issues with the mini 30 than with the ak (I haven't shot the ar yet, will do so in the next few hours). especially when using that crappy wolf ammo. My ak loves that crap.

I was hoping no one noticed or mentioned the candle stands. Pretty cute though huh?

The HR10/22 bill is the one you need to look up. It will even kill off the wonderful Ruger 10/22 with high cap. mags. WTH?!?!?!? Be aware of this bill and it's status.

For your new acquisition, I HIGHLY recommend picking up some H&K 30rd military/police mags. They have become popular and rightfully so. They feed flawlessly.

I had my trigger reworked on my mini-30 recently, just havent fired her yet. Also going to add a tuneable gas block so i can adjust the pressure and ejection of shells.

No....the candles worked for me. It was your little AR shrine.

I never said the Mini 14 was superior to an AR except in price. And if I was dropped off in Iraq and had a choice between a Mini 14 or AR 15, give me the AR hands down. Both guns are really in different classes, the price prove that.

Now if a new and improved version of the mini 14 was created that cost over a thousand dollars then maybe we would have a race. I just said I’m not crazy about the AR-15 mainly because of the price and the two things in my previous post. I wasn’t really trying to make a comparison between the two. Thou we can if you like could be fun!

I do like the .223 round, it’s fun to plink with and blow up rocks at a 100 yards. I know many people think its too light for a military round but I think the extra ammo you can carry makes up for it.

The last mini-14 I saw was around 800 bucks, I see ar-15's all the time for 800 bucks.

$800! I think I only paid around $400 for mine at Walmart! Add another two hundred for a synthetic stock, picatinny rail and red dot scope and you have what I have now. I just need to buy a flash suppessor (they look much better with one) and a bi-pod and my mini 14 will be finished.

Every AR I ever looked at was at least $1000 and that was two or three years ago. Maybe some totally stripped down version is $800 but I have never seen one that cheap.

You can get an AR for around 800 bucks if you buy the pieces used and build it yourself. Even if you do, you're not going to be finished there. My complete AR kit was $900. After adding a flat top upper with front and rear folding sights, metal collaspilbe stock, i'm at about $1100. I'm not done there. I'm going to add rails for a front grip and maybe even get a new upper.

The gun store I go to has them all the time for 800 bucks complete. Even the m-4 carbine type. He had 3 when I was in there last week. Cheapest one I see on rugers site is 894 bucks.

I don't even see them on walmarts site, even there 10/22 are 200 bucks. I would like to see a link to somewhere that you can get a mini-14 for 400 bucks.

Well you wont se a new and improved version of the mini-14......so i guess we wont have a race. You gotta pay to play right? So i guess i am ready for the comparison since there wornt EVER be a min-14 comparison.

The 6.5 Grendel has taken control of the .223 light round mystery. Also there are sniper semi platforms that are changing things in the military as we speak. Evolution is wonderful in some aspects.
