The asphalt Savannah by L.S., my truck and it's vivid imagination.

My truck has some misguided notion that it is something other than a Pig on wheels. I noticed a behavioral change shortly after slapping a couple IRC VK56 race club stickers on it and recently I found something strange on the laptop after leaving it plugged into my truck overnight.

It’s an “Auto” biographical account of my truck’s last trip to the strip and you tell me, should I be worried about my truck’s mental health or do you suppose this is just a passing phase?

The asphalt Savannah by L.S.

The staging man points at me and with a flick of a switch my parking lights are set ablaze and glowing like the eyes of a carnivore in the moonlight. The ignition key is spun and I immediately roar to life, expressing my displeasure at being awakened from my slumber.

Still groggy from my nap, I creep around the water box, like a predator stalking onto the Savannah.

Detecting a meal close at hand, I emit an ominous roar and begin to sharpen my fins on the asphalt.

Tonight there is no chance of escape for my chosen prey, I will not falter on the slippery terrain.

Sensing the imminent pursuit, my prey is pacing nervously, it’s heart pounding, it’s fuel pumping, it trembles, keenly aware of it’s own mortality.

I am warm and fully awake. The smoke clears only to find my prey standing silent, observing my fins, sharp, black as pitch and glistening in the night.

My eyes are bright and I obtain sharp focus on the landscape ¼ mile away where the bloodletting will surely ensue, I crouch and make ready.

The tree starts it’s rhythmic pace and I smell fear close by. First amber…second amber…almost time now and I growl to show my disdain that a weaker animal would dare cross the Savannah when I need to feed.

I take a quick, deep breath and with my throttle fully engaged, I let out a deafening roar and hurl myself forward, slashing through the RT beam in .03 seconds.

My pray is startled, taken off guard and sensing it’s demise, it struggles to keep pace, fighting, clawing desperately for it’s very life.

It’s no use however, I am an earth crushing 5000 lb Demon, mercilessly attacking any prey that wanders into my domain, quick to take advantage of even the slightest miscalculation.

The animals on the outskirts take notice and are extremely attentive now. They look on in disgust as I gut my prey, realizing I have a ravenous appetite that won’t be satiated by just one kill, they cower down as I engulf my capture, wondering if my murderous gaze will befall them next.

I am the predator that strikes fear into the hearts of those inhabiting the asphalt Savannah and they are terrified at the mere whisper of my name....Land Shark.
