Got to ride in my first 12 second car

At least it should be a 12 second car. I haven't ridden in anything faster than a high 13. Well I went srapping today (cutting copper and AC coils out of old changed-out commercial AC units for money), and one of the guys there borrowed his buddies Evo. It has 5 lbs more boost than stock and a tune and exhaust, not sure what else. He dynoed at 325 HP to the wheel. I know they are low 13's stock and come with 300 at the crank, so I guess it very easily should be 12's. Anyway, he took me down the road and
1: Holy sheet that biatch was fast, if definately held you back in the seat, plus the turbo sounded pretty cool.
2: I wasn't really too impressed. I knew it would be fast, but I thought 12 seconds felt faster than that. Granted it pulled hard, but not like what I expected, I figured warp speed. Honestly, it didn't feel that much stronger than my truck from 0-30 mph, but I know it would have kept pulling on me in a race while my truck fell on it's face.

It was fun to be in a fast car, but does not make me re-consider racing my truck at all. I like the torque better. But I bet the owner has fun in it!

Re: Got to ride in my first 12 second car

Yeah that's good ole V8 torque. 4 cylinder boosted HP isn't as fun IMO.

Re: Got to ride in my first 12 second car

i dunno if that evo would be in the 12's with only 40-50 hp more than stock..

here is a link to a mainly stock evo 9..

13.79@97mph.. http://www.dragtimes.com/Mitsubishi-...lip-15552.html

add 40-50 hp and i see it doing 13.3's at most

Re: Got to ride in my first 12 second car

OK, so thats why it was fast, but not surprising fast. I could have sworn they ran low 13's stock (13.2-13.3). OK, although he will beat me, now I want to race him LOL. He and his dad (the boss) said he wished I had brought my truck (I was in the van) to race. But I have to wait till I get tuned again with my old tune.

Took a ride with a guy in a '83 Malibu at Union Hill drag strip here in Tn...He has a 383 stroker and all kinda coolass mods in that old car!!!
Track is only a 1/8th mile and he is pulling 6.25...

Re: Got to ride in my first 12 second car

The only thing that matters is that you had fun no matter how fast it really was. I drove my friends 11 second Camaro for a bit and it was pretty cool. I never ran it on the track but I did some what felt like 0-60 or 70 runs on the street in front of his house though. I couldn't really tell how fast I was going though cause it isn't street legal and doesn't have a speedometer though. I've ridden in some 12 second stangs (one kenne bell supercharged with nitrous and another with a turbo) from the speed shop I live by and there is definitely a difference between a fast car in a straight line to a fast daily driver on the street though...lol

Re: Got to ride in my first 12 second car

4 cyl turbo cars are nothing to laugh at...plenty of my friend's imports whoop my notch a new @ss...

the stang does cause some head trauma sometimes, lol

and the AWD on the evo helps a lot to put that power down...

Re: Got to ride in my first 12 second car

It was def fun! Thsoe little boosted 4 bangers can out run a lot of vehicles especially when modded, but they just don't fell the same a some raw heavy *** truck torque lol. I'm glad I got to rid in it though. I kow their one of the racing bad boys, those Evo's and STI's, so it was a good experience. I think the owner is more into off-roading in it though. I guess their are a bunch of off-road trails he takes it on
