My Uprev cable will not connect to the ECU when my lap top is plugged in the my power inverter, if i plug it into a extension cord all is good. My battery in my 2002 model Dell Inspirion 8200 is DEAD and will not take a charge. The lap top has is a 1.4 ghz, 1 gig ram, 40 gig HD with XP home.
What brand of power inverter are you guys using that works with Cipher?
Anyone know of a safe place to get a new battery for my Dell?
No Accessories are to be used when running UpRev. Invertors create LOTS of electrical noise and are to be expected to interfere with UpRev. UpRev warns against this.
I bought a new battery for my old Averatec laptop. I don't recall where though.
Try this site: www.laptopbattery.net. They also offer a military discount. Looks decent.
Google finds everything.

If you're just running Cipher and not trying to flash the truck you'll be fine using an inverter. I use a 150w Radio Shack inverter and have run Cipher many times on my truck and my buddies. IIRC it was $40.00 bucks or so.
The inverter you're using most likely doesn't have enough power to run the laptop correctly and isn't producing the required voltage. I'd invest in a new battery for your laptop as TB suggested. That way you can use Osiris and flash the truck with no issues or interference from outside electrical devices. Last thing you want to do is gamble on crashing the ECU...

I have been Googling batteries, just looking for a site that someone has used before. Hate to order one and it goes bad in 45 days with a 30 day warranty.
I ordered replacement batteries for my UPS from batteryplex.com. I had no problems with them. They had a really good price for what I was looking for but I don't think their prices on some other stuff I checked was that great. Dell does sell batteries. If you get it from them then you'll get an exact replacement. The aftermarket batteries seem to not exactly match the OEM specs. I think it's the milliamps that are higher on the aftermarket batteries. It isn't a problem and the vendors try to make it sound like you're getting a stronger battery but the aftermarket batteries I've bought don't seem to last quite as long (longevity, not runtime).
