Tried midgrade this tank, wow

I usually fill up with just regular unleaded and I get about 250 miles to the tank, usually from either costco or cheveron. I'm running 285/70r17's in yokohama geolandars, 2.5" level and bone stock other than that. I decided to see if mid grade would make any difference, I got almost 300 to this tank filling at cheveron. I'm wondering if premium would be worth it now. What do you guys thank and what do you usually run?

Before going to premium I would try the Chevron regular so you get an apples to apples comparison using the same octane level.

I've honestly only used premium from chevron or shell since birth. I'll drive out of my way for that gas, idk why. Now have 190k

11-12 lol and waiting to see how much I lost with the airaid mxp I just installed

I just filled up with my very first tank of premium gas, first one in 44k miles ($89.40).

Yup. I've had $112.00. I did the math awhile back and in 4 years I spent 25k in gas

I always run premium because I run my Cortex on the Performance tune. I've tried a few times to run regular with the mileage save tune and there was a little change not sure if it was due to the programmer or fuel.

what he said. I'm by no means an expert on the subject. my under standing is you would want to use 91 octane with the 2* timing advance because of the faster burn rate of the higher octane fuel. Sound right?

In my '04 I got worse mileage with higher octane fuels. :dunno:

I just always felt like premium is cleaner and better for the engine in the long run. And the airaid is definitely looking like its taking mpg down, will know for sure soon

Premium is not any cleaner or better for the engine. Higher octane burns slower and helps deter spark knock for higher compression engines.

I am obsessed with my MPGs. I hand calculate it every time I fill up cause I use it to gauge the health of the fuel system (filters, hoses, injectors, etc). I have noticed better MPG's with Chevron gas. Its only been 1MPG at best, but hey, anything helps right?

Cheers,
Blake

Why? Use the Fuelly website. I have a link to my current MPG in my siggy below.

Ya I knew that part. So nobody uses premium??

I only use 91 octane so my bully dog doesn't blow my motor on 91 tune. And I have 3° timing advance. Also I'm use to it my rx7 and 3000 gt took it so I'm use to paying a little bit more.

I only run 91 octane when I run my 91 Uprev Map at the drag strip. I haven't run the numbers but I doubt that running 91 octane on a daily basis makes economic sense. I get better MPG on 85 octane when running the appropriate Uprev map.

The Titan manual calls for 87 octane, which in most parts of the country is the lowest octane grade. Here in Colorado 85 is the lowest. I have no knocking.

Unfortunately, the way the vk and vq are designed with such big heads, you may never hear any knocking from cheap gas. The titan is made for 87 octane, because it has an average compression ratio of....9.6:1, I believe?

Anyway, if your gas wasn't adequate, the knock sensor would detect that and pull timing automatically.

My Titan ONLY drinks Shell or Mobil Premium 93 Octane!!!

Thanks to Up/Rev it also stays in my 93oct. Track/Performance Map at all times!!!

The compression ratio never changes unless you take the engine apart and change it.

Anyone run e85 map with flex fuel? i've heard of some GTRs and other stuff getting tuned for e-85, but not really a a titan.
maybe for a reason i guess haha

The guys at the drag strip love e-85. They suggested that I try it. But I'm not flexfuel so I'm not interested.

I was simply trying to clarify something earlier, I didn't mean any harm by it.

E85 is just about the same cost Mile per mile, however, E85 burns VERY clean.

Apparently, it burns so clean that one of my instructor's shops had a commercial account that had an engine blow. They ran only E85 in all their rigs and wanted to know what it looked like inside compared to a normal gasoline engine. My instructor said that, after around 200,000 miles on the engine, they took it all apart and it looked like a new engine on the inside, completely clean, no carbon buildup at all.

Long term, is it worth it? Maybe.

I'm not FlexFuel so I don't have to worry about it.

I've heard the same thing from another mechanic. Unfortunately, Ethanol does bad things to carbureted engines.

I know DS is running an E85 Up/Rev Tune w/ great results!!!

It must be properly tuned or else you could risk detonating your engine!
