Re: Nissan Committed To Titan Despite Missing Sales Target
I have had my Titan since March with no problems not even brakes yet. We had a Nissan service rep on this site a while back and he said he hadn't even heard of any rear end problems, so it is just a small few with rear ends going out. The brakes are the only widespread Titan problem but from the pole on this sites homepage most people are satisfied with the perminant fix. I am seeing more and more of these Titans on the road too.

Nissan had a hell of an advertising campaign, but they did not back this up with a reliable product, good customer service, availability of parts and training for technicians. I have been very vocal about this. I have met others who have been vocal about their experiences as well. This has an effect, not sure if Nissan realizes that or not…
IF that was a POINT then here is the COUNTERPOINT > My Titan was an '04 purchased in the fall of '04. I am overwhelmingly SATISFIED with my truck in regards to quality, performance, appearance and customer service from my dealer! My only issue was the brake problem and my dealer took care of this very easily. It runs great, I love the look and am totally committed to the TITAN!

More Counterpoint > My experiences are way different ~ good performance / good quality / good dealer service. As far a the Tundra is concerned ~ I was considering this truck before my purchase but as of now ~ the only thing I liked from the Tundra ('06) was the rear power window and the NAV system ~ not much else. Who knows about the '07 Tundra after all it could certainly be improved.
Re: Nissan Committed To Titan Despite Missing Sales Target
I have a 2004 4x4 "LE" Titan, with 12000+ miles and use it as a beach buggy . I did have the usual brake problem, but the dealership here replaced the brakes immediately. The brakes were replace at 3500 miles. Otherwise the truck is great, everything works as advertized, maybe I'm the lucky one.
Re: Nissan Committed To Titan Despite Missing Sales Target
I try to look at the positive side of things. This is the truck that does not age. After 2 resurfacings I finaly got the pemanent brake fix at 15000 miles. I'm on my second radio. My mud flaps have been reatached twice. Hopefully the 2 sided sticky tape holds this time. I took my truck in last week to have what I thought was an exhaust leak looked at. Turns out it was due to noisy injectors. They found that 4 were leaking and decided to replace all 8. They noticed that the rearend seals were leaking but on furthur inspection found that the rearend was comming apart inside. They replaced the whole rearend axle assembly. Over the last year and 1/2 I have had the privalege to sample a wide variety of rental cars. The mazda 6 was my favorite. I have given up on trying to fix the interior rattles so I have ordered a banks exhaust and hope to drown them out. I had an 00 xterra before this. It was slow but built like a gun safe. It's why I bought a titan when I decided to move into a 1/2 ton. I do like the truck and plan on keeping it for a while but I just wish Nissan would have told me I was going to be a part of their reasearch and developement team.

Ditto on great customer service and no problems on my early 04 model, except the brake thing. I'd buy one again tomorrow -

I agree with Craig. I have had mine to the dealer for the brakes Etc.. but the Titan is a excellent truck. Nissan has always built top noch vehicles and probably always will. As a mechanic and shop owner that works primarly works on American made vehicles, I see the Titan making the Big Three sweat the truck market. I do agree with everyone else about the s*#* service department thing. Nissan needs to adress that issue and DO IT NOW!!!!! I had the same experiences at my dealer. But they do send that survey out that gets sent back with a very poor rating! I have customers with new trucks ie: Chevy etc.. that cannot wait for their warranty to run out so they can go to an independent to get more personal honest service. I am not saying that dealers are dishonest, but with all the run arround you get there it makes one uncomfortable. In short Nissan is not the only one with service dept issues but they do top the list.
Re: Nissan Committed To Titan Despite Missing Sales Target
When designing the Titan, Nissan corrected a lot of the mistakes Toyota made with the the first generation Tundra, but made a whole lot of new ones. Starting off, the Titan has two cab/bed configurations and only a single engine. The next Tundra and the Domestics have around 20 for the half ton alone. There should have been a regular cab model Whether they actually ending up using it or not, truck users like having choice. It's like Nissan listened on how to engineer a full size truck, but completely ignored how to market it. Plus, there's the almost complete lack of involvement in racing from Nissan as a whole. As they saying goes, race on Sunday, sell on Monday.

Re: Nissan Committed To Titan Despite Missing Sales Target
Everybody is missing their target goals when it comes to full size trucks. Why should this be a surprise or even news. For the record I've got an 04 with 60K on it. Bought in April of 04' born on date of March. This truck has been in the shop like 15 times in 22 months. I can't really say it's a POS though, cause they've all been for an oil change and that's it. Other than the brake deal which my dealer took care of promptly. This truck rocks. I regularly tow during the summer, over 100 miles one way, and never once has it given me any trouble. If Domestic auto makers could build a vehicle this reliable the first year, Tundra and Titan wouldn't be around.
Re: Nissan Committed To Titan Despite Missing Sales Target
I think all brands and dealers have their issues. I had a buttload of problems with mine, but I still liked the truck. I got so sick of trying to find a dealer with was even half-a$sed awake and gave a rat's tail that I sold my truck. Just because one group doesn't have problems doesn't mean that Nissan is doing a great job and every one with a problem should quit britching. You spend (or finance) $34,000 on a new truck, the dealer had better take care of you. It's great that those without any problems are smoothe sailing, and I hope that continues. For me, I will wait a little while to see how the new Tundra will pan out. That doesn't mean I won't buy a Titan, because I still think it's an awesome truck. That also doesn't mean that some Toyota dealers won't have any problems either. I'm sure Toyota's R&D is aware of whatever problems Nissan is having. After all, they did copy (and for good reason) Nissan's ad campaigning of "going out to America to real people and asking them what they want in a truck."
I truly miss my Titan, but I don't miss dealing with the dealers. The good service writers for Nissan are hard to find, and for any other brand for that matter. Maybe I just have bad luck. I hate to say it, but I've had absolutely no problems with the 2 GM trucks I have had, and my F-150. No problems over 50,000 miles and 90,000 miles, but I know some people who have had nothing but problems. I just get the overall feeling that Nissan doesn't really care as much as they should.
By the way, I was at a Chevy dealership (one of my accounts) and noticed that this rather large dealership had very few trucks on the lot. I talked to the sales manager and he said they just aren't selling trucks very well lately. He said most of the people buying from them are going to the smaller cars. Not me, I want to exercise my right to burn as much gas as I pay for, and a truck is the best remedy for that for me! No truck I have ever owned had the sheer power that my Titan had.
Oh well. Just my opinion.

Re: Nissan Committed To Titan Despite Missing Sales Target
Maybe I'm one of the lucky one's from the '04 R&D team but I'm going on 2 yrs w/my '04 and I've had no problems with my Titan other than the brake issue that everybody seems to have had. Casa Nissan here in El Paso fixed it the 1st time, had my truck back the same day and I haven't had to go back for any other issues other than oil changes (knock on wood). Sorry to hear that some of you guys haven't been so lucky. I love my Titan and everybody that has ridden in it loves it too!! I wouldn't hesistate to get a new Titan or recommend it to anyone either. My '00 Maxima has 70K miles and still haven't had any issues with it either. NISSAN Rules!!!

Yeah! My early build 04' has had no problems either. Best/mostfun/ most useful truck or car I have ever owned. I think we might have some trolls. I'm not saying that all the trucks are perfect, I know there have been some problems, but I LOVE my Titan. Nissan has invested alot in this truck and are moving thier HQ to KN, that's gotta say something. I believe we will see a 2nd Gen Titan in the works with a couple of engine options and a Dually would be cool.
