Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

Looks like we might finally get an HD Titan with a diesel. Dodge based or not, it will probably be pretty nice. Every new truck design that comes out is better than the last. The new Dodge will probably be a great truck. The new Titan should be possibly a little better.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

Yeah I've heard the talk and read and article in a 4X mag speculating on a HD Titan. I drove semi's for years and no matter what any true trucker says each and every one of them would take a CAT any day over any other engine. And let me tell you that I would be foaming at the mouth for a Titan with a CAT in it. You know talking about all of this is making me think of my ideas for a dually truck I thought of awhile back and I'm gonna send it in to Nissan. I mean why not I bought my '05 Suzuki Cruiser Aug of '05 and then wrote to Suzuki(auto) Jan '06 that they should make a truck that I could haul my suzuki bike in. The Suzuki Equater is coming out this year(2008). Granted it's just a Nissan Frontier with some slick body mods and Suzuki badging, but they waited too long, the Titan's in the drive and I wouldn't let anyone pry the remoter starter from my cold dead fingers baby. Anyway I'll shutup, you guys have a great day.

Re: Turbo Diesel Titan with full time 4wd

so i know that i am probably going to upset some people but i have to say that i think it would be cool if power stroke made the diesels for the 2009 titan, you gotta love the numbers that the 6.4L TT diesel puts out... too bad they killed that truck with ugly looks. but as far as things go i have to say that i love my 06 titan, plenty of power, its not a chevy dodge or most importatnly a toyota(that is the ugliest truck i have ever seen). I know that Nissan will do the right thing. I think i would like to see a nismo edition tho.. with all the additions they put on the nismo frontier. that would be awesome!

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

The Powerstroke puts down the lowest numbers of the big 3's diesels.

I don't know where your getting your info. from on the Powerstroke 6.4, but it is the worst of the three diesels in fuel mileage, they've experienced serious regeneration problems with it, and recent dyno tests done by an independent P.U. magazine found that the 6.4 Ford Powerstroke was way below the 6.7 Cummins and 6.6 Duramax in H.P. and Torque, although it is advertised to have similar stats to the Cummins and Duramax.

It was nearly 100 H.P. and 100 ft.lbs. lower than the Cummins and Duramax that were all compared on the same independent dyno.

I'd be really relieved if Nissan's Titan ends up with the Cummins of the the three engines. Its the only diesel of the three that has met the 2010 upper tier CAFE smog requirements too.

The Cummins is the only diesel of the three that has a medium duty rating as a diesel engine. The other two........are considered light duty rated.

Major tear-down mileage for the cummins is much higher than the Powerstroke or the Duramax too. That means your Titan's body will rust away before that Cummins needs major work.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

I'll belive it when i see it, There's been talk of an HD titan since 07. With the price of diesel these days why would one bother? I mean unless you're towing all the time there's really no need.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

Personally, with the cost of fuel for the diesel as well as extra maintenance costs, I would love to see a gasoline option for an HD Titan. I'm not towing all the time, so the fuel mileage difference would not make up for the other extra expenses.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

This should spark peoples interest.

Last month Chrysler LLC and Nissan Motor Company jointly announced Chrysler would build the next iteration of Nissan's Titan half-ton pickup at Chrysler’s plant in Saltillo, Mexico, based on the 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. Nissan reps said the new Titan would retain certain styling and performance elements to differentiate it from the Ram but no specifics were provided. Now, sources have told PickupTruck.com some of those details, plus information about a heavy duty version of the Titan.

Externally, the Titan half-ton will share its doors and roof panel with the all-new Ram, while the rest of the Titan's sheetmetal will be unique and designed by Nissan.

Like the current Titan, the future truck will offer only two cab configurations, extended cab and crew cab, even though the 2009 Ram will have a regular cab option. The Titan will also receive Dodge's new 'RamBox' storage feature, which adds dry lockable space to the sides of the cargo box, and it will share the Ram’s innovative new coil sprung rear suspension.

The current Nissan Titan is only available with a 5.6-liter V8 but the next Titan will offer a wide range of Chrysler-sourced engine choices, including a 3.7-L V6, a 4.7-L V8 and *likely* the 5.7-L 'HEMI' V8, instead of Nissan's next-generation 5.6-L 'Endurance' V8. The HEMI's simpler overhead valve (aka pushrod) construction and lower cost materials are expected to save several hundred dollars versus the dual overhead cam 5.6-L V8. Cutting costs is critical in the increasingly price sensitive full size truck market. Using the HEMI would also set the Titan up to share the Ram's two-mode hybrid powertrain – fuel economy being another highly important purchase consideration.

Nissan is expected to continue to offer the Endurance V8 in its other vehicles, like the Nissan Armada and Infiniti QX56 full size SUVs, but split into two power classes, depending on brand. Those with Nissan badges will receive a 400-hp version while Infiniti will receive a high output 450-hp to 455-hp version.

The Ram and Titan will also share the upcoming, Cummins-built V8 light duty diesel engine, expected for the Ram in 2010.

Nissan also announced plans in April to build three all-new light commercial vehicles at its Canton, Mississippi factory, where the Titan is built today. According to our sources, one of those vehicles will be a heavy duty pickup that will be totally unique to Nissan – no parts will be shared with the Dodge Ram.

The HD Titan will come in three-quarter-ton and one-ton models. Single and dual rear wheel versions are also expected. A concept HD Titan is expected to appear in January 2009 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
