I bought mine for our company use to haul freight. Thats the primary reason we bought it. (it just happens to be fun to drive while the bed is empty also)
A friend of mine works at the International Engine Plant in Huntsville, AL. That is where they make the Powerstrokes for Ford and Intl. He told me that they just started a "pilot build" of 6 cyl turbodiesels for the Nissan Titan, and that they just delivered a bunch of them to the company......
I'm curious to see the MPG for the 6cyl. I'm definitely interested and definitely would pick a 6cyl diesel over the HD, if the 6cyl is economic. I made a promisse to myself that my next purchase will be a diesel, but I realy have no need for a HD, so the 6cyl diesel would be sweet!
I've always preferred Cat power for the long haul. The C15 has 625 hp, 2050 ft-lbs torque out of the crate, and guys massage them for even more.
You know what they say...If it ain't a Cat, it must be a dog!!

Who needs that huge Cat lunk of iron???? If they want to win they will come out with something with less HP than the big 3 diesels but with much more MPG like 23-35MPG . The first company to do that will sell all they can make.
I thought about a big 3 diesel before i got my titan but decided no way. They where 14K$ more and only got 2-3more MPG. The standard gas motor was more than enough to pull my stuff.
I'm looking forward to the HD. I don't understand the big deal with diesel. To me the 3 to 4 mpg gain is offset at the pump with 40 to 50 cent higher fuel cost.

Actually a diesel premium option on a big 3 3/4 or 1 ton runs about $4,000.00-$6,000.00 over a gasser engined P.U. comparably equipped.
When it comes to getting 200K-300K miles on your engine without any major work(Some Dodge Cummins have been known to go 500K!)......and getting 300+ H.P. and over 600 ft.lbs of torque, and still averaging 20-23 mpg diesel at 65 mph unloaded.......that can be a positive inducement.

diesel is also good cause when ya tow you loose very little mpg.....where as on a gas engine the mpg can be cut in half....
i want to see how the redesign this new titan as much as power it....
either way i want turbo!

Anyway you look at it......whether it's a midsize, small or large diesel.......I'll bet my savings on it that it will be turbocharges.........Diesels are so adaptable to turbocharging, it's downright great. You want "grunt"/torque.......go diesel.
Also the fellow that whined about diesel pump prices......If enough vehicles.....both light trucks and cars start flooding the U.S. with Turbo diesel power........you will see the price of diesel getting down there where it belongs.
Gallon for gallon there are more BTU's in a gallon of diesel than in a gallon of gasoline........Once refineries start gearing-up and putting out more diesel......the price will change for the better, in my estimation.
Now, good old California is the real bugaboo...in this whole scenario........In fact California as well as a few other industrial "blue" states are making it very difficult for diesel vehicles to be marketed in the U.S., as these particular "blue" states have incredibly ridiculous standards for the diesels that make it prohibitive($) to build a or R&D a diesel just for these states.......
Europe is being overrun with clean burning turbo and non turbo diesel powered cars and trucks. Their performance characteristics are quickly catching up with the high-end gasoline powered cars and trucks.......with the added advantage of greater fuel economy, and greater torque.
The recent Audii R10 race car that's diesel powered has been blowing away the competition........at Lemans....Sebring........etc....
Diesel technology has been left to the wayside, much too long.........Technology to handly particulates......in particular(lol), haven't received near the R&D money that gasoline engine technology has been getting....... This will and is changing!
Even Hybrids will be leaning towards diesel engines for their charging, and backup power......in place of gasoline engines..........IMO.
They aren't smelly anymore.......they don't belch black sooty smoke, unless you want to stomp the old loud pedal. And actually even that smoke will be handled in the near future too.
The diesels we build........the more the premium price tag for them as a option will diminish.......mass production brings down prices..........
The first pocket calculators cost nearly a thousand dollars back in the late 1960's.........now you can buy them at the Walgreens, or Longs drug stores for less than $10.00!!

They're still working on a V6 diesel for the existing chassis but word is they're not working _REALLY_ hard on it. If they don't get the lead out, they'll miss the 2008 refresh and have to wait until the 2010 new model is released.
International (*hint* it is a variant of this:

The 2010 heavy duty truck has been officially axed. Suppliers have been notified and it's only a matter of time before Nissan issues the press statement. I would like to think they'll dust off the project if the V6D sells well but unless things happen soon, the project might be delayed until the 2010 vehicle redesign.

Additionally, Volvo bought out the remaining shares Nissan Motor Co. held in Nissan Diesel. The UD engines are also "not ready for primetime" in the North American consumer market although their new Atlas box trucks are pretty nice compared to the Isuzu ELF. It will be interesting to see what Volvo does with UD or if they simply purchased them to get the Dong Feng (China) relationship to grow.
