GM has signifigant interest and control with Isuzu. DMAX is the company that builds the Duramax motors, and it was a joint venture between GM and Isuzu (although Isuzu does most of the day-to-day, iirc)
GM's interest in Isuzu is probably below 10% now. It was at 10% the last I checked (early 2006). The only viable relationship left is the Thailand JV. Isuzu is still the primary design source for the replacement of the Colorado and the Isuzu equivalent. It will have a diesel option in Thailand and Singapore but no where else. The design for this vehicle will take place in Thailand.
I still say whoever comes out with the first half ton medium sized diesel engine that gets 30 mpg highway will rule the market for years to come. The inline 6 is always the most efficient diesel design due to balancing and lower end torque curves.
Just saw new photos of the 08 Titan Long bed. The truck is sweet, but it does kinds look like the crew cab door is a bit small. I don't know if it was the angle. It does look like it's HD model too. I cross my fingers that the final numbers will have more power and really give others a scare that Nissan can step it up.
IIRC the 8ft bed is for the King cab and the CC has a 7ft option. I also read in a press release that the payload for the 08 Titan will be going up 500lbs.

If this is true, did they increase the spring rate, and leave everything else alone? Or have there been other changes to increase the strength. Where did you see this press release?
edit
Ok, I'm answering some of my own questions. From looking at the Nissan website, it looks like the 2008 payloads are up across the board. For example the payload for a 2005 was shown as 1508 lbs for a crew cab, and the 2008 regular wheel base crew cab is 2063, an increase of 555 lbs. The long wheel base payload is less, probably because of the extra weight of the truck.
Thats pretty substantial, I'm surprised they haven't been advertising that yet.
I am sorry to say that my needs for a HD truck look like they will diverge from Nissan's long term plans. Looks like a Ford is in my future.

You mean your willing to take a chance on the Powerstroke diesel after all the problems Ford has had with it?
You know that Dodge's new 6.7 Cummins is now equipped with a 6-speed Automatic and comes with a standard exhaust brake with the Automatic tranny versions. Also the new 68RFE tranny is a match and may even exceed G.M.'s Allison tranny.
Ford and International are having some teething problems with that new 6.4 Diesel already........
Just go to the Ford Diesel forums. When some of the Fords have been going into their regeneration mode, there have been some startling things like 2 foot flames popping out of the tail pipes etc...
Dodge is offering a 6-speed Getrag manual tranny and their new beefy 6-speed RFE with great gear ratios.
Even Dodge's new commercial 6.7 chassis are offering the Aisin 6-speed automatic with PTO (Power Take Off) standard.

If you go on the R.V. forums like http://www.motorhomemagazine.com/forums/, which is owned by Camping world, you'll get a lot of information on the G.M., Dodge, and Ford Diesels.
Just think, you get an exhaust brake, standard with every automatic equipped 6.7 cummins Dodge P.U..!

Ford may outsell everyone with their F series, but their Powerstroke diesels as of lately have been a real "crap shoot".

eightball - The new 6.4L Powerstroke is NOT the same as the 6.0L debacle. The 6.4 is a far better engine and addresses all the problems that were encountered on the 6.0L. For better or worse, both Ford and ITEC learned a lot with the previous generation.
FYI - Nissan was going to use the very same Powerstroke engine for their heavy duty truck.

I know someone has to be the Guinea Pig for the first year models, but I'm out of that game. I can't afford that or endure the heartache of all the warranty visits and issues.
I let the first year bugs get ironed out before going for any new model........
Good luck with the Ford though. I hope it turns out alright.

bull****. Ford released the 2008 Super Duty then put a recall and told all dealerships that they could not sell any stock of SD trucks due to the faulty ECUs. Motors were going into a "shut off" mode on the highway. I saw a video of one SD litterally spitting flame and sounding like a misfiring lawn mower for about 5 minutes straight.
They did NOT fix there problems. They did a lot of marketing hype on a motor that looks to be just as crappy as the last PowerJoke. Time will tell, but things are not starting well.
I don't know how you can just say they fixed it. They haven't.

Well, I am looking to replace the '04 Titan in '09. There is plenty of time for Ford, Nissan to work things out.
I was a guinnea pig with my Titan and I do have a few issues but nothing major. Ford is going thru that w/ their HD's. I had a Dodge - didn't care for it all that much.
What's the word on GM, my friends?

On top of that Ford has already released intentions to Develop their own Diesel engines and drop International completely, there has been a lot of anger between the two since international refused to pay a percentage of warranty costs for the 6.0l, Ford refuses to pay for some engines, Powerstrokes stopped getting shipped, Court order sends them back into production, and so on and so on.... I have already seen the 6.4l destroy itself first hand, my father bought one and it blew with less than 2000 miles on it, just like the 6.0l
