Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

Now, does "paln to redesign in mid 2009" mean it's actually going to hit the streets by Q3 of '09, or is it going to be a 2009 Q4 release and sold as a 2010 year model?
I honestly wanted nothing more than a diesel powered 3/4 ton or better Titan, but seeing the new '08 Tundra and Silverado pics, I may have to reconsider waiting a whole nother year to jump from the 'tier to a full size.
I'm lucky in the fact that due to the dealership I work at, I qualify for both Nissan and GM products. And it's a good possiblity that I'll qualify for a Toyota vehicle also, I just need to hit up my Hino rep to see if he knows anything. It's kinda nice knowing that I can get employee pricing on two, maybe three different vehicle lines(Plus one if you add Infiniti through Nissan).

I'm just kinda sad that Nissan is going to push back the diesel Titan until '09. Hopefully they put out some specs and spy shots before I'm ready to trade in the 'tier, because I may be tempted to wait the extra year.

Latre,
Al

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

I wonder them saying who will supply the engine. Cummins or someone like that? I wonder if Nissan will make their own based off the VK engine. You hope the rear end will be re-designed. I hope they do that soon if these things are too small. my uncle kept telling me that pumpkin was too small! it will overheat! and it does. Go figure. Hope they look at the competition and mimic the rear end of those, but stronger.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

There's talk on the Dodge forums that it is going to be a Cummins engine. I forget from what source it came from but it was from a known auto insider-type person. There is an article floating around somewhere...

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

The engine will be a international in the diesel titan.. Supposed to improve since the powerstrokes are having some issues with the furds.. Inside info from an engineer i know that has worked for nissan in Tn. for over 23yrs.

Just my thoughts, based on likely facts:
1. 5.6 is a bored out 4.7, therefore, block not beefy enough for a good diesel i.e. 5.6 or 6.6 minimum to be competitive pulling a 3/4 rig. Hope for 6.9L!

2. I am not familiar with Nissan diesel engine line. May exist overseas never seen in industrial market I work in. Technology and more importantly, name recognition is vital. Consider price of a 3/4 ton diesel and let's not repeat GM debacle of 1970's diesel cars. They blew up...

3. Certainly the rear would change. Typical Gas engine is fairly even HP vs TQ. Typical Small Diesel is 1HP vs 2TQ. Large Diesels run close to 1 HP vs 3TQ! So for Titan, expector dream of a 350-400 HP with 600-750 TQ. I don't know how this compares exactly with current Cummins offering in the Dodge, etc.or GMC.

High TQ would destroy our rears instanly...

I saw an article that said Cummins will build a diesel for an "unnamed" light truck manufacturer. Some people are speculating Nissan since they haven't announced the name. I'd bet dollars to donuts that it's going to be Ford, though. Ford has owned Cummins for several years now, but Cummins had the existing contract with Dodge which is expiring soon. That seems more logical to me.

You're not serious are you?

Ford owns this much of Cummins.............0%. Ford has no connection to Cummins whatsoever other than they buy some ISB engines from Cummins for their medium duty trucks.

At one point in time Ford had somewhere around 10% share in Cummins, however Cummins bought all those share back many years ago.

OK, maybe I'm misinformed, but that's what I've been told. You don't have to be an *** about it

Sorry man, not trying to be an a$$. I wasn't sure if you were actually kidding or not, because its kind of a running joke on some other Forums. Just wanted to make sure everyone was clear.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

I think cummins is pretty sick of hearing they are owned by ford as well. I know acouple years ago, not sure about now, they had a page that had the top 10-20 questions asked about them. One of them was " does ford own any part of cummins" the answer was "no".

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

From what I saw on autoweek today the new cummins engines are probably going in dodges.
