Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

A little birdy I know from the plant has told me that the HD project is not Cancelled however it was postponed slightly, they would not give me any more details than that. From the hinting I think we are looking at around 2010.

It was suppose to be 2008-2009, so 2010/2011 isn't to bad...

You need to be a subscriber. However, this is old news.

I was actually looking specifically for the news that Nissan has signed an agreement with Navistar ( International ) to provide Diesel Engines. Since most of us aren't subscribers, if someone could cut and paste the info, that would be great.

The HD info from the little birdy sounds great. That would be about the right timing for a new Truck for me.

The HD was always 2010 and it has been cancelled.

Thanks man, information like this is more important to me personally than the speculation that frequents this subject.

When I see your posts I always read them with interest.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

I ran into one of the key chassis suppliers for the Tundra during a visit to Nagoya last week. He confirmed that the HD program has been revived but at a slow pace. The frame supplier and Hino have been working together for the past two months. That means the scope is about to open up and more people will be involved soon. Based on the rate of activity, I'd guess at 2010-2011MY.

Maybe this will be enough to get Nissan to revive the Heavy Duty plans.

I appreciate that, I only try to post info that is not speculation but wont get anyone in trouble either, most of the ones in the know at the plant don't talk about it

You Know,..........since The Titan Can Tow Anywhere From 9100 To 9500 Pounds Presently,(depending On Model,cc Or Kc,), I Can Only Imagine What A 3/4 Ton, Diesel Titan Would Be Capable Of,.... Damn, Sure Feels Like A Long Wait When Your Anxious To Plug And Play!

considering that the "big3" all have tow ratings of basically 17,000lbs I don't think the titan's is necessarily impressive.

The current issue of Diesel Power has an article that states Nissan will come out with a 1/2 ton Diesel in 2009.

If they're talking as a 2010MY, they're on to something...

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

Nissan to ready diesel pickup in US by 2009 -paper
TOKYO, June 15 (Reuters) -

Nissan Motor Co. is preparing a diesel-powered version of its Titan full-sized pickup truck by 2009 for the United States, with engines built by local truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp. , industrial daily Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun reported on Friday. Japan's third-biggest automaker, held 44 percent by Renault SA , offers no diesel vehicle now in the United States, where the fuel-efficient powertrain is used mostly on commercial vehicles including large pickup trucks.

A spokeswoman at Nissan said the company could not comment on future product plans.

Nissan launched the Titan, its first and only full-sized pickup, in 2004 hoping to carve a place in the lucrative, U.S.-dominated segment, but sales have failed to live up to expectations.

In May, Nissan sold 4,899 Titans, down 18 percent from the year before. So far this year, sales are down 15 percent at 28,668 units.

A 2008 model year Titan went on sale in April in a segment facing stiffer competition from Toyota Motor Corp.'s remodelled Tundra, which Japan's top carmaker has called its most important product launch to date.

Toyota has hinted that it would eventually offer a gasoline-electric hybrid version of the Tundra.

The U.S. pickup market is dominated by Ford Motor Co.'s F-Series and General Motors Corp.'s Chevy Silverado, the two best-selling vehicles in the world's biggest auto market.

International Truck and Engine Corp., Navistar's principal operating company and the exclusive supplier of diesel engines to Ford's Super Duty pickups, will supply Nissan with the V8 diesel engines, the Nikkan Kogyo said.

The Titan is now powered by a 5.6-litre V8 gasoline engine.

Nissan is due to launch a diesel version of its Maxima sedan in the United States in 2010 with engines produced by Renault.

I hope this actually happens. If and when it happens I hope it has atleast 400HP and 700lb ft TQ so Nissan will have a jump on the rest of the big 3.

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

400HP and 700TK would be STUPID. They would then have to go head to head with the big 3. They could do much better with a smaller diesel offering exceptional MPG in a 1/2 ton that is still strong enough to tow toys like sleds and 4wheelers. Then the world will beat a path to their door. look at icon vehicles they got that way by not joining a category but inventing it or twisting it in a new direction.

Ex: the modelT,
The beetle,
240z,
65mustang
84 Dodge Minivan

Re: Heavy Duty Titan On The Way!

All things considered, would waiting for the 08's be preferable to buying an 07?
