Ok, I am thinking about being the next guy with an iphone. I am on the ATT network and I recently had an LG Incite. The Incite had some touch screen issues and I followed some bad internet advice and tried to change out the touch screen myself. Yep, I did that, it didn't work.
So, several broken parts later, my incite no longer functions, so it is time to buy a phone.
I am eligible for an ATT upgrade so through best buy the 8G iphone would be $99.
With my phones I really only do some internet browsing, texting, and calling. I only occasionally do music listening since I already have a good MP3 player.
I would look at a different phone since I probably would not use the iphone to its full potential, but for only $100 I kinda feel like I should give it a look.
I am wanting to hear some thoughts on who uses the iphone. What do you like/dislike? How is call quality?
Anything to add??
Thanks,
Zack

I got my first iPhone about a month after they first came out, and have loved em ever since. I do upgrade every year when they come out with the new ones, but in all reality the older ones are still great, I usually just give my older one to my wife and we sell the other on ebay. The call quality at least in california is pretty darn good, the features are outstanding. I was like you when I first got it thinking i wouldn't listen to much music on it because I had a nice iPod, but i dont even use my ipod anymore because it's just so convenient having it all together in one package. My only complaint has been fixed and that was the lack of picture messaging, but with that now incorporated I can't think of any complaints. I have the the 32g iPhone 3GS.
The two responses above are true. Once you get it you will never be able to get rid of it, I've tried. It becomes your right hand. It is so valuable, whether getting directions, searching a number on google and then just tapping the screen to call it, buying something on ebay, chatting on facebook, checking the weather, looking at some hotties on one of the many apps, it's all there. Great for playing your itunes through the aux input in your truck. It has become a seamless part of my life that I could not do without. I know that sounds pathetic, but get one and you'll understand. I've got a 16GB 3G. FYI, I am a big Black Friday shopper(day after Thaksgiving). It takes me a couple of weeks to map my route, anyhow, I read a rumor that AT&T will be giving away the iPhones(not sure which version, 3G or 3GS, or which size) free with a new 2 year agreement(new or upgrade). So if you can wait a couple of weeks it may save you some mod money.
I love my iPhone, now my wife wants one too. I had an AT&T Tilt before this and got tired of all the bugs and crap, so I upgraded to an iPhone 3G. I haven't used my 80GB iPod in months, my only real complaint is that I can no longer tether it to my laptop and if you have multiple email accounts then it's kind of annoying going from a folder of one account to the other since you have to back all the way out to the account list. Small price to pay for such a great phone.

Hopefully Verizon is able to pick up the Iphone when the AT&T exclusive contract is up next year. AT&T sucks down here and most everywhere I have lived.

The only thing I would say is be prepared to pay about $100.00 a month for the service. But it is way worth it!!!!!!!!!

Based on what I've seen, Verizon is going with the Droid instead. Sounds like they gave up waiting for the iPhone.

Crazy talk! I pay $122/mo for a 2-line family plan, unlimited family messaging, and iPhone data plan. I'd say $70/mo would be about right for voice+iPhone plan.

I must be getting a discount, we have 2 iPhones with unlimited texts, and a third phone with a combined 1000 minutes and I pay 150 a month for all three.

wrong!
Verizon will have a iPhone but it doesnt look like it until late 2010. Apple and Verizon are waiting for Verizon's new 4g LTE network and not bother with the CDMA.
Verizon is apparently a year ahead of AT&T with this new technology. I also read the exclusive rights to AT&T had already expired. Apple just wants to do this right and for those that wont leave Verizon and want a iPhone will just have to wait. Apple will also be dealing with other carriers as well, maybe not as soon people expect.
To the thread starter.. go for it. I have a BB Storm from Verizon and it's similar to the iPhone. I love it and will never go back to a normal phone again!
A lot can change in a year, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Like Yahooligan my last phone before my current 16GB 3GS iphone was the AT&T Tilt. I did everything I could to that phone to make it better, but after we upgraded my wife to an iphone, I didn't see the need to not have one.
It is silly to suggest that a cell phone can become a permanent fixture in your life, but it does so much AND it does it easier than any other phone on the market. The things it does can be done by other cell phones, but there is something to be said for ease of use.
My wife has the 8GB 3G that you are talking about, I think the speed advantage of the 3GS is worth it though. I don't know how well the coverage is with AT&T in your area, but I find it hilarious that the knock on AT&T is coverage still. They have spent millions since first getting the iPhone to upgrade their service. Even before I got an iphone I saw their service performance get better. I used to hate AT&T because of it, but now, at least around me its just as good if not better than verizon.
On a side note, regarding google android I have played around with a beta version installed on my tilt. It was good, but it does look and feel a lot like the iphone interface. Running multiple apps at once is nice, but lets be realistic, like the iPhone it's going to take a while to hit its stride. Its app store is significantly smaller than apples, and while apple is not doing themselves any favors by blocking apps, its just going to take time for their apps to reach the numbers already available on the iphone.
@Zkeys - I was not an iphone believer. It took a while to convince me to buy one. But seriously, not a day goes by now when I don't pull it out to search for something quick online, check my stocks with one button, check the weather with one button, look at map, use the facebook app, look up a restaurant on urban spoon, check my bank with the usaa app, check the status of a package with the fedex app. On NFL gameday I can watch games streamed live on the phone with my directv app. It really is a great EASY TO USE tool for your everyday life. Plus when you're bored, there are some goofy but fun little games that run great right on your phone.
