Hey guys, Im from MN but I now live in AZ. I Had a Polaris Explorer 4x4 as a utility/hunting Quad. But I no longer need it for those reasons. I Was Considering one of these. Honda 400Ex, Yamaha Prditor 660 or the Yamaha 450 YFz. Does anyone have some insite for me. Im looking for a fast but reliable machine. What do you think would be my best choice? What are the bennifits of one over the others?
thanks for the help guys!

I don't know much about them, however my brother has a Yamaha Banshee 350 that absolutely hauls ***!! It's very quick off the line, I'm sure the top end wouldn't be as good as the other's but boy is it quick!!! We only take it to tracks anyway so we don't get much of a chance to really open it up very much.

i have a 2002 honda xr 400 wich is basically the same exact motor, and it is bullet proof, first kick every time. the yamaha 450 on the other hand will probably be faster and is liquid cooled compared to the air cooled honda. i live in az and even though the honda is air cooled i never had any heat realated issues with it even in the middle of summer. i dont really know what the price differences are on the two but i expect the yamaha to be more. so if your looking for a quad that will haul, get the yamaha. but if u want something a little less powerful but imo a little more reliable get the honda. just my .02.
You may also want to check out the new Honda 450R, it's liquid cooled and should have that Honda rock solid reliability. I have a Honda 400ex, bored out to 440. It is one quick beast. You could pick up a used 400ex and trick it out yourself too, if you get into that sort of fun!
I have a 03 Suzuki Quadsport LTZ400. I have the stage II jet kit and FMF exhaust. It hauls a$$. I love it. I've had it since november and ride every chance I get.

I second the nomination for the Suzuki Z400 (or one of it's Kawi/AC clones). Very fast, and has reverse which is nice.
If reverse isn't an issue and you have to have the fastest, the Yamaha YFZ, Honda TRX450R or the Polaris Predator are your machine. I imagine you'll be doing duning mainly in AZ? If so, a Yamaha Banshee is also an option.
But for good all around riding, the Z400 is quite the machine. And they should be releasing a Z450 soon and judging from the number's from the MX bike the engine will be based off of, it should be topping the charts..
I ride my Banshee every where and have fun with it. But the YFZ 450 looks mighty good.
Z-400 and it's clones, nice, but lacking power.
Polaris Predator, nice but heavy.
Electric start and reverse are nice options.

I rode the yfz450... It is a badass bike. I didnt want to get off of it. Funny, the owner rode my z400 and wanted IT. Yet he refused a trade. Oh well mine is easier to maneuver and the yfz is long and narrow.

I was at Glamis and my buddy and I traded bikes, my '99 YZ400 for his 03 YZ450. I liked the power, but wanted my 400 back. My Suspension had been reworked, new triple clamps and Fatbars. It felt so much better, plus after 5 years, my YZ is very comfy to me.
