My friend has an '01 silverado 2500 with the 6.0 in it. He's at just a hair over 100k miles and wants to do a good tune up because his power isn't quite there and it's getting REALLY bad gas mileage (not that it was ever very good but it's gotten worse). My question is is what's a good plug to put in it that isn't super expensive like iridiums? He's not into racing it or anything high performance so he just needs basically stock replacement or around there. Also we're going to seafoam the engine through a vacuum line (probably brake booster line) and put some in the tank too. Is there anything else that would help the 6.0 out? He said the air filter was just changed not too long ago and he keeps up the oil changes. I was thinking probably a fuel filter change too? Thanks for any help.

I would recommend the OEM AC Delco Iridiums 41-985 (100K mile plugs) pricey but well worth them. He needs to buy some MAF cleaner as well I guarantee its dirty. Also remove and clean the TB too. Good luck.

I have some electrical parts cleaner for the MAF so we'll go ahead and do that too. Is he gonna need to get anything like a gasket kit for the TB if we remove it to clean it? Also should he do new wires too? I thought the stock plugs were AC platinums? Thanks for the info.

No GM uses the AC Delco Iridium plugs. No gasket is necessary since the original one is rubber reusable. If his budget allows wires I would get those as well.

HAHA I take it you're a duramax guy! Yeah he's helping alot and getting me in the right direction for sure. I saw a set of tayler wires at jegs for his truck for around $40 something and msd wires for the same. I'm not sure if he can swing it or not though, i'll have to talk to him. I know he's kinda tight right now because he's kinda in between jobs. he might just wanna do the plugs, TB clean, MAF clean and seafoam it for now. Thanks though for the help. I'm really shocked that GM was using iridiums back in 2000 because they're still kinda expensive and high tech even now, 9 years later!

I'm sure that would help too but he's not going to be able to afford new cats. Maybe the O2 sensors, but definitely not the cats, he's not looking to spend hundreds of dollars. Thanks though for the tips on the MAF, TB and plugs.
