Am I wrong?

I share the following reply I sent to an aquaintance who was asking me what I thought of the tone of the forwarded emails being sent to both of us from a mutual aquaintance. The person asking me watches way more prime time network programming than news programing and seems surprised about the emails we are getting.
**The following is the email I sent**

Regarding the tone of the emails, I honestly think it represents how a lot of the country feels.

More and more people are reaching their breaking point. I think the emails are a barometer of the frustration people are feeling. There are large numbers of people who have never wanted to be politically aware, seeking out political information because they are smelling something burning. The more they look, the more angry they become.

I relate it to raising teenagers. I admit that while I have no firsthand experience in this matter, I have keenly observed many others do it. I can tell you this much. The less involved a parent is in their teen's life, the higher the odds are that teen will exceed whatever boundaries have been set.

To continue the analogy, what do you think would happen in most households if the parents leave for a three week vacation and leave the teenaged kids at home with all the cash they need and tell them "behave, use the money wisely, no parties, and don't bother us while we are gone" ?

That's the way we have treated our politicians. All too often, we've sent them to office only to have them waste the money we have given them, arrogantly misbehave, and throw one hell of a party for themselves and their friends.

Now our vacation is being spoiled because the neighbors
are calling and filling us in on what has been happening, and the fit is about to hit the shan.

The parents come home not only to find the house in shreds and a police car in the driveway, but find evidence that the teens might be secretly trying to transfer the deed to the house into their names. Now they have a choice. Continue to look the other way despite what they know now and hope for the best, or make a decision to protect themselves and actively influence the future by getting involved any way they can.

** End of email**

So am I wrong or is that a good explaination?

Re: Am I wrong?

It's at least a humorous analogy anyway and having raised kids I can certainly relate but you left out the teenager's wealthy and influential friends who have cracked the routing number to the parent's bank accounts and are slowly siphoning off funds to support their gambling habit and in many cases just because they are greedy.

Unless people understand the concept of money creation and it's effects, they will be missing the big picture and regardless of whether they trade their teenagers in on some who will behave themselves or simply ground them for eternity, there kids friends are the biggest problem because they still have full access to the parents bank account and are able to blackmail or bribe the teenagers regularly so they will keep their mouths shut and play along.

How do you educate parents about economics and the Federal reserve when they are already pissed about their kids, have their hands full with that issue and focusing all their energy in the direction of their children which makes them crazy already. Then, you try and introduce them to the rouge friends who steal a dollar or two out of their bank account every day which many of them may not notice anyway and if they do, they believe that it may be their own children who are completely to blame and in many cases, it's easier for the parents to ignore it, keep working and hope everything will be fine and maybe their children will stop stealing from them or they pray for their kids to have decent grand children.

You have seen them, the parents who believe they have done everything they can and aren't willing to face reality or the future anymore so they either deny their kids are a nuisance, discount the influence or existence of the rouge friends, maybe adopt some more children in the form of an even larger government or pray for decent grandchildren that will make it all worth while and the whole time, they are getting poorer by the day because in reality, nothing they do makes any difference due to the fact that the rogue friends are relentless and often invisible to the parents.

I think it's high time they met so we should grab the rogue friends by the scruff of the neck and say here folks, these are the sneaky bastards your kids have been associating with, what do you want to do with them?

Sure, the thieving friends may threaten to destroy the records to everyone's bank account or burn down the city but we are going to have to deal with them one way or another and if not, we can all kiss our future and that of our grandchildren goodbye.

Re: Am I wrong?

Politicians are just over grown teenagers thinking of them selves only and do not care what anyone thinks or says. At least most of them.

Unless you represent a block of voters that can turn against the politician, one person doesn't change the status quo.

It's a collective free rider problem. Each person believes that someone else should have to do the leg work to get change enacted.

We elect and forget for four years...
