getting a Wii. any advice?

Im picking up a Wii package this weekend as an early xmas for my girls kids (and for us..).

It comes with the Wii, one wiimote, wii sports, wii sports add on package (with the bat, racket, etc), MnM racing, carnival games, and the Wii fit with pad.

What are the "have to have" games? I want stuff we can all play together, or at least 2 players at a time.

Can you get online with the Wii? and is the online play any good?

Im assuming i need another Wiimote, or will one do for now?

what other accessories should i look into? charge station, infrared bar, etc.

Thanks!

Re: getting a Wii. any advice?

You will definitely want two remotes. I like Wii Play for just simple, fun games.

Re: getting a Wii. any advice?

I would suggest getting Wii sports resort with the Wii motion plus adapter. It makes the wiimotes more accurate. You can buy the Wii Sports Resort in a combo pack with 2 motion plus adapters.

Oh and definately look for a charge station of some sort. You dont want to have to deal with changing batteries, especially if you use the wii a lot.

Re: getting a Wii. any advice?

Wii comes with a bar that plugs into the back or you can buy one that is cordless. No need to upgrade that. I would get 4 remotes w/ nunchucks and the wii sports resort with the 2 wii motion adaptors. Also want a charging station. They have new inductive charging pads where you just set the remote on a pad and you don't have to put it in a cradle (No idea if these work good or not but they sound cool). Another fun game is Raving Rabids (any version) and Mario Kart. Simple games are really fun with Wii.

Re: getting a Wii. any advice?

Get the balance board too. There are some games that use it like skiing and snowboarding and the such.

Its an attachment that goes on the bottom of the Wii mote. It makes it so the wiimote is more accurate when aiming.

Basically it makes the wiimote better at telling how much you move. I use it with Tiger Woods for the Wii and it is great. It makes it so your swing is almost identical on screen compared to your body.

Heres a link to the explanation on nintendo's website. Wii MotionPlus at Nintendo :: Wii :: What Is Wii? :: Accessories

+1 for mario kart!!! get your self a total of 4 wii-motes and 4 steering wheels and it will be fun for all.... you can get the steering wheels off ebay really cheap like 5 bucks or less each one .. or if you order more than one form the same place then you could get combined shipping and they would be even cheaper. .. get a charge station for remotes for sure cause you will go through batteries fast ... they have one that you can just lay the remotes on and will charge wireless ... .. then u dont have to worry about taking the sleeve of and such or eve3n the wii motion plus thingy ..

Re: getting a Wii. any advice?

Mario Kart is a must!

I would really look at spending the money on Wii Resort compared to just buying the motion plus. A lot of the games on Wii Sports are also on Wii Resort ( just glorified ) if you ask me.

x10 on getting extra remotes. One will do for now but eventually you will want all 4 and recharging units for those remotes.
