If I were to buy a truck today it would be the Titan, but I'm wondering if anyone on this board is excited about the upcoming Toyota Tundra. It's going to be a completely new model that's really going to up the ante on the current trucks. The Toyota FTX concept is a look into what direction their going with the next Tundra. A lot of people don't like the look of the FTX but I must say that if they put a truck like that out on the market I'd get it in a heartbeat. It has everything the current Tundra doesn't have (size, ruggedness, monster power).
Also, if the next generation Tacoma is any indication as to what direction Toyota is going in it should be a good sign for the Tundra. The next-gen Tacoma which comes out later this year has been seriously beefed up in size to make it a true mid-size pickup instead of the compact pickup it is now. Not to mention the front end now has a lot of similarity to the 4Runner which I think is a good thing. It looks to be a very good truck. Hopefully the next-gen Tundra will follow in its footsteps.
Anyone here excited about the upcoming Tundra? What do you expect Toyota to bring to the table? I know they're building an all new plant in San Antonio just for the Tundra. I think they have to really raise the bar to stay competetive in this segment now. The F-150 is going to take a huge chunk of this market-segment and the Titan is also going to take up a huge part of the "import" truck segment. Toyota has to bring it with this next generation Tundra or they can kiss the pickup game goodbye. I expect the next Tundra to really raise the bar. What do you all think?
Ya, the price is critical, atleast for me. That's why I think Toyota really has to bring it with this next-generation Tundra. Unless it's unquestionably better than the Titan I'll go with the Titan. But if the prices are close then it's really going to be a competition.
okay if we're going to envision what the next tundra is going to be like then it's only fair to envision what the next, i'm guessing 2008 Titan is going to look like. its going to once again one up Toyota and display pure brute strength. one thing for sure is i'm going to enjoy my beautifully built Titan for at least 4 years then when the next best Titan comes out possibly get that, but my current Titan seems like its going to last at least 12 years. besides if toyota is going to build ugly a$$ trucks like the FTX then forget about it. i don't care if the FTX engine is going to be bada$$, that truck is hideous. not worth my hard earned cash...
the upcoming tundra will be big and nice, as someone already stated it has to be, the tundra is seen by many pick-up owners as a joke these days, toyota needs to step it up to compete with nissan. the new tundra will be nice, but as someone already pointed out, nissan will one-up toyota in 2008-09 when the new TITAN is released.

Looking at Toyota's lineup all their vehicles have average or below average acceleration and horsepower. Things are starting to change with the 4runner but it's been this way for a long time. The next Tundra needs to bring 315hp + and atleast 380 ft. lbs of torque to the table. If it wasn't for the Endurance V8, the Titan would have been considered a decent truck but not a great truck.
Second Toyota needs to change the way they sell trucks. Toyota needs to give customers more options in how they configure their trucks and the ability to custom order trucks. Toyota can sell cars with all inclusive trim levels with few or no options but trucks are different. Give people a feeling that this is their truck for their individual needs as opposed to just another vehicle in inventory.

What is a Tundra? I didn't think that there was anything to compare the Titan to.
Too late for me. When I get ready to buy another new truck, I will, as I did before buying the Titan, carefully explore what is on the market at that time.
I have heard it will be a "True full size" truck! I have also heard rumors of it being a V8 highbread! With over 300hp and over 30mpg on the highway! That in my oppionion would be sweet!

I think the next-generation Tundra is really going to give the Titan a run for it's money. Toyota is still the premiere automaker from Japan and I think they're going to prove it with their next truck.
The FTX concept I saw at the Chicago Autoshow had several features that I liked: pullout ramp like on a Uhaul, large compartment in center of rear bumper, sliding drawers below the doors, built in welder and compressor, hybrid badges.
As far as I know, Toyota is still deciding whether to make a hybrid version. I really hope the pullout ramp makes it into the production model. I doubt the rest of the features will make it.
I heard a rumor that Toyota was going to put a 5.8L V8 into the next Tundra.
I also heard a rumor that by 2006 Nissan would have a full-size diesel pickup.
