I read that magazine also but i have also read other articles that stated the Tundra to have a 5.4 rated "over" 300hp and i have also read it could be a highbred motor!! That would be sweet! A full size truck with over 300 hp and got over 30mpg! I would buy that! But until Toyota releases the actual numbers it is all just SPECULATION!

I don't know about the Tundra having the Hybrid engine...but the dealer where I bought the Titan is already talking about the Rav4 being a Hybrid next year ... so it could be possible someitme in the future. Ford just did it with the Escape as well.

well 2 years is an eternity in the automobile business

anymore a new model from a competitive manufacture often raises the bar over older existing models,
look at what a leap the Titan is over the Tundra

if Toyota doesn't raise the bar I would be dissappointed

BUT I don't think Nissan will sit on their asses either, I'm sure more power can be extracted from the 5.6L V-8 & look how much nicer the interior is on the 2005 Altima over a 2002 Altima

"BUT I don't think Nissan will sit on their asses either, I'm sure more power can be extracted from the 5.6L V-8"

I think it can be done immediately. The real trick is do so without requiring high octane gas.

"look how much nicer the interior is on the 2005 Altima over a 2002 Altima"

I think I will get the aftermarket wood trim kit just so I can tell some F150 owners that it's standard equipment. I have been paying attention to the interiors of various cars lately (Mercedes S600, 2004 Camry, Cadillac Escalade, Chevy Suburban & Tahoe, 2004 Corvette) and I don't really find an alarming deficiency in the Titan's interior by comparison.

You're right VRod, I would bet that Toyota will have a really great truck when they release a redesigned Tundra. In fact, it wouldn't take much for me to reconsider the current double-cab. If it had a little more power (like 275-290) and and a 5-speed tranny. Then, if they really wanted to make it a tougher decision, they could include heated leather seating for 6! The Ram has had a redesign with the hemi for almost 3 years! They had to know that the F-150 was going to be completely redesigned, and they had to know that Nissan was going to release the Titan. It kinda makes me feel that they are simply trying to throw us a bone rather than a serious competitor. I want a vehicle that I can keep beyond the term of the loan and I don't really want to keep my current truck until Toyota finally releases their redesign.

One question VROD: Do you know when the new Tacoma will be released? I'm a little curious about that truck too.

I think this is funny.......I have a 04 Titan LE CC 4X4 and my dad has an 04 Tundra DC SR5 4x4.........we of course have parked them side by side for comparisons........and my dad's Tundra "looks small" when compared to my Titan.........inside looks smaller too.......esp with the rear seats folded up........I agree....the power rear sliding window on the Toyota is the only thing I wish the Titan had, and that "toyota smoothness" is nice as well ( i traded a 96 4runner for my Titan) but I love my Titan and am extremely glad I bought the big Nissan!

So very, very true, 37L1!!!! As far as the Tundra comparison link-God, they are desparate and grasping at straws!

I sold my '02 Tundra V-8 SR5 4x4 TRD to get my Titan. More room, more power, "who could ask for anything more". Sorry, couldn't resist.
Any pricing info yet on the new Tundra? Will be pretty expensive no doubt.

Hybrid truck

My car is a Prius Hybrid. If Toyota comes out with a hybrid truck I will be first in line to buy one if:
It has a bed longer than 7' so I can install a fifth wheel hitch
I has a towing capacity of 9500 pounds or more.
I have not bought a new truck in the meantime.

I will believe the Ford hybrid when I see one in a real person's hands and on the road. So far it has been vaporware. Same for GM.

I'm also a former Tundra Owner (4x4 with Ivan Stewart Kit and TRD Duals)...

I drove the Tundra DC... As everyone else also said, the coolest thing is the sliding rear window. But the rest of the truck, especially the inside, reminds me of my 1987 Camry.. STILL! It needs a serious makeover, inside and out.

The Titan blew me away... I wouldn't mind a longer bed, but it's not that much shorter than the Tundra.. can still fit all the necessities in it, maybe not 12' drywall, but I only had to do that once...

I have to concur that the Titan makes the tundra look puny by comparison - add the additonal aggressiveness of the vehicle styling and the tundra just looks really bland. Today I was passing by a relatively new Tundra and boy was the driving trying to check out the Titan! Maybe he had lowered the car or something (don't really think so), but I was definitely looking down at him while he was looking up.

No manufacture is gonna say they have less of any, just more of what they have. The tundra DC is longer than the titan because it has a longer bed. Less leg room, by how much and inch or two. Hardley noticable. It's true the tundra feels and looks smaller inside because the cab it isn't as wide and as long as the rest and the windshield is closer in, as the titan and the others have a windshield that extend further out forward, that's what gives it a different feel. Go sit in it again and you'll see what I mean. But it's nice to have a motor that isn't half way into the firewall. I'm still waiting to test drive a titan, haven't yet but have sat in it many times and it is nice. I'll test drive it when my bro is ready to buy. He's waiting and reading about the titan's plus and minuses on here. The next tundra is what's holding him back, specs that is.

A guy down the street just got his factory ordered Tundra. All black, looks sweet. Leather inside. We compared trucks and I liked his back window and he liked alot about the Titan. He got a spray in bedliner done, mine came from the factory with one. He had a Borla exhaust put on. I don't need an aftermarket exhaust, it sounds great from the factory. He has 240 or 270 HP or something, I got 305. He also loved the utili-trac and how the back seats flipped up and down. He has a very nice truck and so do I.

Now a guy 3 houses down has a Deep Water Titan, and a guy 2 streets over has a Red Brawn Titan (he's an area fire chief). I can start my own neighborhood Titan club almost.
