Shirley on Haitian relief

If You Rebuild It, They Will Come, by Paul Shirley

He was fired two days ago from his gig at ESPN for writting the above linked column. Some might have heard. Very Interesting P.O.V.

Re: Shirley on Haitian relief

some of the points made make sense and are true.

I do thou disagree with rebuilding in an area where disasters happen.

Disasters can/do/will happen anywhere and everywhere, you can’t live life saying/thinking/doing I can’t build here because ________ could happen.

Kind of like, rebuilding a city that is below sea level.

How often does the city below sea level flood compared to some
cities well above sea level.
Almost every spring there are cities in the midwest that flood.
Cedar Rapids is about 800 ft above sea level.

he's on point with a lot of things in the article... no one ever asks the pressing questions.

Re: Shirley on Haitian relief

I agree with his points of views. Sure its hard to see what is happening, but providing education on how to better themselves is far more valuable than just throwing money at it.

I havent donated, and I dont think I will.
Besides, I doubt my money will make it there anyways.
