Battlebots

Hey all - I just got back from the Battlebots competition in Owatanna, MN (hope I spelled that right)...It was AWESOME. WE (my high school students) had a 120 pound bot in competition. It was our first time. We put the MAJOR smackdown on the first bot we fought - knocked it across the ring on the first hit and it got stuck in the rails on the side of the arena. We could have won the match there, but the guys wanted to fight some more, so I said "knock him loose, lets hit 'em again". Unfortunately, the force of the first big hit blew 2 of our 4 gearboxes out.

Those damn gearboxes were the ONLY thing the kids didn't build. Our bot didn't even get a scratch from a 20 MPH head on collision. The guy who built the gearboxes for us must have worked for Dodge....

Still, it was cool as hell. The kids learned a lot, and next year we're gonna build our own gearboxes, or find someone who can build us tough ones!

I was just thinking the other day that I hadn't seen this show in a long time, is it still on the air?
