I think they're raising the age limit to 35, but by then you'll be 75% of the way to retirement. That would be a tough call, but not necessarily a bad one. I see guys walking in the door making $65-70K. About the only people getting in these days are military controllers. Reagan fired most of the work force in the 1981 strike, and the guys (well, mostly guys) they hired to replace them are quickly approaching retirement age. We're going to have to hire a lot of people to replace them.

Nothing wrong with a career in the military. One of my best friends started as an E-1 just before I did in '84 and was just selected for LCDR up there in Washington where you are. He's bailing out in 8 months. Not many jobs where you can do that at 41.

It only gave me a few months before I hit 31 to get hired, and with a family to support it's sort of a no brainer. I was really leaning toward the FAA, but needed to make a quick decision. Guess I shoulda been looking at this point a few years ago, huh? Well, at least I got my Titan out of the deal!

Good point. I will be 38 when I retire from the Navy, and that is still a young pup to most people. I have been looking into the Phoenix 20 program to get in the FAA, and if that doesn't work, I would have absolutely no problem with working DOD for a military facility.

Anyone Out There Been Stationed On Diego Garcia?

I was stationed there in 2001, way back when the TITAN was gleam in NISSAN's eye. I know that there is quite an Air Force population there right now, just like when I was there.

Coupeville is on Whidbey Island, right in the middle. I would say about 1 hour south of Bellingham and 30 minutes north of Everett.

MM2 Nuke serving aboard the USS Seawolf. Just reported from a tour as a Staff pickup at the S8G prototype in Ballston Spa NY. I'd make the same decision again, for the friends I made and the experiences I've had. There's no way in hell I'd go back though.

RS has MARF always been the happy place or is that just a recent event?

Go Navy, Beat Air Force!

Eyes On Iraq

I'm in the Marine reserves in an artillary unit and was just advised last drill(Sept) that we are an infantry unit now. HMMMMMMM

And instead of drilling 1 time next month(Oct) we are scheduled to drill THREE times. Three in Nov,two in Dec as well as the two week anual training which usually doesn't happen until July of next year. HMMMMMM

All this and no offical orders yet...Hmmmmmmmmmm

I've got three words- Iraq next year....:

YEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAA
