Buy digital camera extended warranty

I am mentioning this because I know lots of you own digital cameras. My wife bought me a Nikon 5000 digital camera two years ago for our 10th anniversary for $1,100 at Best Buy.I usually don't purchase extended warranties but we purchased one this time for around $50.00 because I figured it would be worth it since digital cameras have lots that can go wrong with them and repairs can be expensive. Today my charger went bad and I couldn't charge my batteries so I went to Best Buy to try to get another charger under warranty. The person at the Customer Service desk explained that I could not get the charger and I could pick out any camera I want for $1,100 or less. What a deal! Since the prices on digital cameras are going down and new features abound, I really came out ahead. I promptly picked out the Nikon 8700. So I went from a 4x zoom to an 8x and 5 mega pixels to 8 mega pixels. I also picked up a lot of great features. The camera is much more intuitive than the 5000. The remaining two years of the extended warranty transfer to my new camera. If anyone buys a digital camera I would highly recommend buying the extended warranty.

I never thought about that angle for the extended warranty. I wonder if other stores do this or if the customer service just screwed up. Outstanding deal. Chalk one up for the little guys.

I agree! A couple of friends of mine bought service plans from Circuit City on their amps and subs in their cars. That was about 3 years ago, and as these things go bad, they have been upgrading at no charge!

what a great deal.

But for real, sometimes those plans do pay off!

I used to work at Best Buy years ago and we'd do deals like that depending on the product and the mood of the managers, it's really hit or miss. Sometimes they'll order repair parts, fix in store, or just replace with equal or lesser value. The majority of the time we'd just replace the product then send the faulty one back to the manufacturer or sell it at a reduced price (if it worked.)
