A good photo re-sizer you can download for free from download.com is a program called Thumbs Plus. Type that in the search box on download.

Or, you can use car domain.com to 'host' your photos and they will come up the same size as mine.

If your printer came with the HP Photo and Imaging software, use this to select your photo then use the Image Editor to open it. On the menu bar, select Image, then Resize. On the left you'll see the Resize options. Select Pixels as the Units for measurement. With the "Keep original proportion" and "Resample" boxes checked, you can now change the pixel dimensions. The actual reduced file size will be displayed near the bottom of the resize window. Once you've reached the desired size just click OK, and at the next screen use the Save As button and give the file a different name so that you don't overwrite the hi-res version of your picture which you'll probably want to keep for printing.

NT, you may have gone a little too far on the resize. If you look at Chris's
picture above, it is 575 pixels wide and 365 pixels high. Did you resize to
100 pixels? I just use Paint in XP to resize mine. You can use the stretch/
skew and shrink them whatever percentage you want.

It's the file size in kilobytes that is preventing you from uploading it. If you
use Paint and drop the height and width to 50 %, you'll notice that the file
size will decrease from around 900 kb to about 100. What operating system
are you using?

You might want to download the free program Chris suggested and try it.
After resizing, right click on your picture and select properties, and see if
you lowered the file size enough to upload it.

You may be trying to upload using the wrong option, the Avatar is limited to 100 x 100 pixels.

Click "Stretch/Skew" under the "Image" menu or press Ctrl+W.

A box will open with Stretch and Skew settings.

Within the Stretch settings, a default setting of 100% is located in both the "Horizontal" and "Vertical" text boxes.

If you want the image to be smaller, place a percentage less than "100" within the boxes.

Be sure to put the same number in both boxes.

Click "OK"
