There are some of my pics of meets, friends car and videos I made. This is my first time editing videos. I need tips for editing videos. I need to know what software you are using and exactly how you configured the compression, codecs, filters, etc.
I am using Virtual Dub(freeware) to edit videos, but I need more help.

Baller, I've never used a freeware program so I can't speak to them, but I imagine they are fairly limited. I use Ulead Video Studio and ArcSoft Showbiz. Both are very similar, and use storyboards and timelines, you drag and drop your video clips and add fades, effects, etc. Neither one is high end, such as Adobe Premier, but I find that they're more than adequate for my purposes. I'm able to produce decent video that I burn to DVD as MPEG2, or VCDs (MPEG1) that can be burned to CD. I've been using Showbiz lately and like it just fine, at first it can be intimidating but before long you get the hang of it. Once you're done editing, you can export the video to a variety of different formats, including video formats that can be streamed to the web. I believe that you can download a trial version from the ArcSoft website.

I use Pinnacle studio version 8 (they came out with ver 9 not to long ago). I've used Adobe and Ulead both, and had problems with them being stable. They seemed to crash alot when I started doing transitions etc. I have a P3 600 so I don't have a lot of horse power but I can do all the 3d transitions etc...just takes a hour or so for a 10minute video with lots of transitions to finish. You can probably fine a "free" copy on Kaza Lite but the software is not that expensive if you already have a firewire card just get the software. It's very easy to use...they all work about the same.

Good point about the horsepower, I should have mentioned that. Editing video is probably the most taxing thing you can ask of your computer. A fast computer, lots of memory, and a large hard drive with plenty of space for buffering will help. Also it's a good idea to tun off things like anti-virus software and auto updates so that there are no interruptions during the process.
