The next tool that I can't wait to get my hands on is computer memory saver. You use this tool to keep from losing your preset radio, electric seat, clock, and other settings when you replace your battery in your car or truck. The part has a place to put a 9v battery on one end and a 12v plug on the other. You plug it into your cigarette lighter before you replace your truck battery and your settings are held. I am more likely to disconnect the battery like you are supposed to when I work on the electrical system if I don't have to fool with resetting everything. Most tool places, including J.C. Whitney, sell this tool for around $10.00. Every time I have had Sears replace my car battery I always have to reset everything. I wonder why sears doesn't buy one of these tools to use in its automotive service centers?

The guy changing your battery forgets to clear the last change and you end up sitting in your back seat with the wrong time and listening to a polka band on your radio, not to mention in the Titan computer system about 30 different fault codes coming up and your blinded by the array of warning lights on your dashboard.

O.K., I'm getting jerked around by www.toolking.com I ordered the 6 piece DeWalt 18V combo for $613.27 shipped. Toolkings sends it UPS, but requires signature (of course no prior notice from toolking that I have to sit home and wait for delivery). So UPS won't leave it at my house. Funny thing is I get all kinds of stuff from UPS all the time at my house, w/ no problems. I email toolking and tell them to contact UPS and waive signature as I won't stay home all day waiting for UPS. Toolking responds they won't waive signature and tells me to go pick it up at UPS. Now I'm thinking Home Depot and Sam's Club are more convenient than UPS, and why order stuff from the Internet if you can't get it delivered to your house? So I'm going to dispute the charge with my credit card company as "merchandise not delivered" and let toolking eat the UPS charges, and go buy the tools at Home Depot.

I'm sorry to hear that you have this problem. I had a problem a month or so ago when I tried to buy a weather radio with S.A.M.E. technology over the Internet. The company that I ordered from didn't let me know that the item was out of stock before I submitted my order. They couldn't give me any info on when they would have the item would to ship to me. I waited for weeks and weeks. I canceled my order and used Amazon. I had the radio I wanted within 5 days using regular UPS ground shipping. I should have ordered through Amazon.com from the get go but I forget about them having more than just books. They used to be affiliated with Tool Crib (one of the largest mail order tool companies) in the past. I'm not sure if they still are but Amazon has lots of tools. See the link below. for a 18v Dewalt combo kit.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...&s=hi&n=228302

I have had better luck ordering through Amazon than other companies because they are reputable and have been doing this for a long time. I get around the "not home to sign for delivery problem" by having the stuff delivered where I work. If I don't want people at work "into my business" knowing what I am ordering, I have it delivered to my wife's place of business.

Though technically not a "tool" I buy a lot of ****ies work clothes. If you buy ****ies at Walmart you get very little selection.(usually just khaki color) If you go to ****ies.com you can get a poplin work shirt with two front pockets with pencil slot and soil release treatment for only $16.99. Over sixteen colors are available with this shirt and sizes are available from small to 5X. You can get long sleeves for a little more money. These shirts are built iron tough for guys like us that work hard and demand quality. The shirts have plenty of shoulder and underarm room so that they are comfortable when using lots of arm movement. They also have long tails that stay tucked in. I have a closet full of these shirts and they sure are comfortable and keep me from messin' up my good shirts while working on the Titan. They make all types of work clothes and even make pants with a cell phone pocket.

The name of the company is D-I-C-K-I-E-S. I guess the forum software thinks I am trying to be perverted and is putting in the **** automatically.

Another tool I like

I just got back from Wally World where I purchased a telescoping window washer for $9.95. This tool is really going to get a workout. I used to wash my windshield using a short handled window washer while I was standing on a step stool. I am 6'-2" tall and it was hard to reach. The new tool I bought is made by Mallory and extends to 7' and retracts to 4'. Because it has a retractable pole, I can keep it in my cargo box in the bed and use it on long trips where bugs are real problem. The tool is made out of aluminum so it should last for a long time. You can remove the handle to make it easier to use on your side windows. The threaded end is a standard paint pole thread so you can use it on a extra long paint pole to reach those hard to reach windows on your house.

You can clean your windshield on your Titan much easier by standing in front of it rather than the side. You will be able to use more force and have a better view of what needs cleaning since you are looking through the glass perpendicularly. You can also reach the back glass without having to climb into the bed. It's great for reaching that hard to get middle space on the roof as well.

If you don't live close to a Wally World, truck stops (I saw one at Pilot) and RV centers sell them also.

I stick to Snap-on and Craftsman for hand and small power tools if possible. The sales guys at every Sears in Orlando know me. I get some really good deals. Last year I got a new 6hp 33gallon compressor from Sears for 75 bucks and a shop vac for 15 since they were coming out with new models. Last week I got the professional screwdriver display (13 different) for 6 bucks It pays to visit often and make friends.

I prefer Husky and Snap-on for air tools. They seem to endure a lot of punishment.

Wife thinks I have a problem. She knows the Snap-on dude by sight if that gives you a hint. I told her I don't drink anymore so let me have some fun.

When I started in the telco industry years ago, they would tell you the only tools you need are a 3 lb lineman's hammer and a can of A-E grey touch-up paint. Then no matter what you work on, "you can hammer to fit and paint to match".

Besides guns, I also seem to acquire more flashlights than anyone would
ever need. The last one is a Surefire G2, and I really like it, but those 3
volt lithium batteries aren't cheap. It puts out 65 lumens of light, but will
only run for about an hour on a set of batteries.

At Walmart and such places, a pair of these 3 volts runs close to ten bucks,
so I have been looking for a cheaper alternative. I just ordered some from
Surefire. They sell them online at $15 a dozen, which is the best deal I have
been able to find. I bought quite a few, since they are supposed to have a
ten year shelf life.

I've got a Streamlight SL-20 that's over 20 years old, bright light, long lasting rechargable, and metal for some weight, if you know what I mean.

Steve,

I am a flashlight "freak" also. The one that I like and use the most is a Dewalt 12v flashlight that uses the same rechargeable battery as my cordless screwdriver/drill. These flashlights are durable, inexpensive (around $20.00 without the battery), put a bright light (Xenon bulb), have good ergonomics, have long lasting battery power, have a pivoting head, a flat base that allows it to stand up on the floor so you have both hands free when working, and a spare bulb compartment.

I have extra batteries that I keep charged that I can swap out if I need to and I can charge a completely dead battery in about thirty minutes.

A lots of contractors (telephone installers, pest control, plumbers, electricians, etc.) use this type of flashlight for the reasons I have listed above. I noticed all these folks using them and that's what gave me the idea to give it a try. I am really pleased with mine.

If you own Makita, Ryobi, Porter Cable or another brand of cordless tools, they make a flashlight that you can buy also.

That Dewalt sounds handy for using under a vehicle. I've been getting by
with a Craftsman drop light that has a retractable reel for the cord.

The little Surefire I have is more of a personal light. It is the cheapest one
they offer, at around 30 bucks. Streamlight makes a very good one also,
and can even be found cheaper.

I noticed that Walmart even has some 3 volts now, but I haven't tried one
to see if they are as bright as the Surefires or Streamlights. I don't know
if you've ever used one, but it is unreal how much light one of these little
things put out.

I also ordered an extra lamp assembly and a polymer belt holster for it. The
new lamp will put out 120 lumens, and kill a set of batteries in 20 minutes.
Many people are using them for self defense, since you can really blind
someone with the light.

Lon, I guess the heavy flashlights are more "socially acceptable" than big
nightsticks. Not that you would ever adjust an attitude with one.

Steve
