Re: Protein shakes*

I've tried a few over the years, and my favorite is Optimum Gold.

Plus, it tastes good! Haha. Not really chalky like lots of other brands, and not a lot of extra added junk either. You can find some good sales on Optimum now and then from Slickdeals.

I've just started the same deal, mostly cardio at home with a new treadmill. Ima lose 30 lbs then start up Insanity again by Feb. Tired of being morbidly obese, lol.

Re: Protein shakes*

I've been using syntha-6 for awhile now. It's been my favorite protein so far. Taste is also pretty good.

I would definitely recommend the optimum gold or gnc wheybolic extreme. Best two proteins I have found without all of the BS sales gimmics

Elite Fusion by Dymatize Nutrition. They offer several flavors. Its gluten free. I love the "rich chocolate".

Yeah I admit I like BSN too. Usually a little more $$ than Optimum though.

Re: Protein shakes*

Avoid the expensive pee and don't drink a protein shake. You should be able to get more than enough protein from food sources in your diet for what you're doing. People that are lifting heavily might need a protein shake as a quick and non-filling way to get some protein in, but you shouldn't need one. A standard rule when it comes to protein intake in every nutrition class I've ever taken is "food first." Get your protein from food sources first, preferably white meats such as chicken and fish, and use shakes to reach your protein goal if you couldn't get there with food. Don't take in more than 30g at a time..your body won't absorb anything more than that.

Syntha-6 is a good one and you shouldn't have gained weight on it. Its only 200 cal with 22 g of protein. Anything less than that and you won't have enough to support muscle while your losing weight(fat) & you will lose hard earned muscle with fat.

Re: Protein shakes*

not a brand suggestion, just a shake tip. I dated a personal fitness trainer for a while and she gave me a great protein shake tip. instead of buying chocolate, buy vanilla and keep a bag frozen fruit (berries, bananas, what even you like or an assortment like they sell at the grocery stores) in the freezer. make a shake in the blender and throw in the frozen fruit. it gives antioxidants and if you are doing the mixed, you will always get a different flavor. it makes sort of a smootie. they actually taste really good. if you decide you want a straight protein shake you can use the vanilla, of throw in a teaspoon of cocoa to make it chocolate.
