advice: '86 Nissan 4wd pickup blown gasket
need advice: '86 Nissan 4wd pickup (5spd) blown engine gasket with 230,000 miles. lots of smoke and no power. mind you I was glad the old mule finally busted, gave my frugal self a great excuse to buy a Titan, as did.
shall i have it fixed (for $1000+) for son's leaning car or donate it?

How is it that you're having it fixed? I'd tear it down and keep it, myself. The scrap value of an 86 hardbody can't be very high. The head will probably be warped and need to be replaced, and as bestatchess said, you need to open the bottom end. Then again if the crank is within specs, bearings are not that expensive. Also a cylinder leakdown test would be in order. My 0.02. YMMV.
