I want a welding machine for Christmas

I am thinking about buying myself a welding machine for Christmas. What brand should I buy? Lincoln, Miller, Hobart? What type should I buy? Stick, wire feed, gas? Will a machine that works on household current suit my needs? Sorry for all the questions but there is a lot of ignorance here.

I asked for the Lincoln Pro135 ... it does MIG and flex and can weld up to 3/8" thick. If you need more than 3/8" steel ... you shouldn't be doing it yourself !!!

I have a lincoln weld pak 100 and I'm very happy. It's a portable wire feed welder that can be mig configured. It uses 115 A.C. and for around the house/farm use it's all I've ever needed. It'll weld 1/4 inch thick in a single pass.

Now, now, you never know what you'll get into some day. Good to be prepared.

I've had a Lincoln PRO-MIG 175 for a couple of years now. The plus with it is that you can feed up to .045 Innershield wire. This thing digs deep for a mig/wire-feed, and you can do more in a single pass. I welded 1" plate 2 weeks ago, for a Titan mod not yet posted (not done yet). I keep .045 Innershield wire in it.

I have not used it with gas yet. It is 220 volt, so you'll have to keep that in mind. I just run it off the same circuit I put in for my 7.5 hp/60 gallon air compressor.

Also for those shopping, shop hard and read alot. Hobart is the economy line of Miller, and shares some attributes. Miller is high-end. Here are some links I have saved, enjoy:
