The sky is falling

I'm sitting here listening to tree limbs snapping all around me, we're experiencing a nasty ice storm. It started off harmlessly, we had a dusting of snow which turned to freezing rain. The power went out for about an hour and a half after I got home, and shortly thereafter my house shook when a good sized limb bounced off my roof. My Titan sits under a car port, but the limb came close to hitting it as it reached the ground. A few shingles got busted up, which sucks because it's a new roof , but it doesn't look like I suffered any structural damage. I just came in from a cigar break, and it's weird listening to all the tree limbs snapping, they get pretty loud!

How far is the storm? I have nieces and nephews in Marthas Vineyard and my son is on Long Island.

Thanks!
Crickett

Hope your truck and home survive the storm....those ice storms suck....hopefully sun will melt it tomorrow!

I agree with Optimist- break the rules and have a cigar inside where it's safe and chase it with a stiff drink. As long as you and your family are safe, the rest can be fixed! That's what insurance is for. Good luck! Richard

Hey Homer, hope the weather conditions have improved today and you didn't experience anymore damage.
Those ice storms can get nasty in a hurry. We used to get them down this way every now and then but we haven't had a bad winter in several years now.
Take care, have a rum and coke. Or Jack and coke sounds good
Let us know how it's going,
Daryl

Thanks, folks, there's nothing like New England weather! Shortly after I posted my thread there was a loud BOOM and the power went out for another hour and a half. I think a transformer blew somewhere nearby. All's well that ends well, when the sun came up this morning there were tree limbs scattered all over my property but only that one hit my roof. I inspected it tonight and it's just a couple of broken shingles. There were over a hundred accidents reported, and one of the school buses in my town slid off the road with no major injuries. As a native New Englander I should be use to this, but these types of storms usually occur in late winter/early spring. The sun was shining today and it was 50 degrees out. I think our weather patterns are changing!

Well with El Nino going on in the pacific, anything is possible. The whole "these types of storms usually occur in late winter/early spring" idea is pretty much thrown out the window with that. Makes me wonder what we'll get in January/February when we tend to get our winter weather. LOL

haven't had a good ice storm in a few years here, but I know if we do, i'm not going anywhere LOL they like to play slip n slide around here when it does. Those northerners with their 'traction control' seem to think they can do 60 on the highway, when we're smart and do 10-20 LOL find him in the ditch a mile up the road, suburban on its roof LOL
