Text Messaging Amber Alerts

I heard on the radio on the way home from work tonight that wireless companies were going to begin offering the Amber alert system to cell phones. Basically, you sign up for the service and when an Amber alert is issued, it sends a text message to your phone and charges a per message fee. Although I think such a thing should warrant a free message, I will certainly sign up for this service when it is made available. The idea that someone could have potentially found my missing kid, but wasn't aware that there was a problem because they didn't receive a text message via their cell phone sickens me. That said, if this service becomes available nation wide, would you sign up and be willing to pay for it?

I agree that it should be a free service. I would sign up for it and would be willing to pay a service fee (reasonable amount).

It appears to be a free service.

sure. I guess I would have to get a phone that supports text messaging though. And it definitely needs to be free. The phone companies can get a kick back for doing it, so they should do it free.

If you have Sprint PCS the alerts do not count against your bucket of messages nor are you charged for them.

I am all for this, anything that helps protect a defenseless child is worth it.

I don't know if Verizon will charge for it, but I just signed up for it - great idea and doesn't matter if you have to pay or not. If it helps get a little one back to their parents, then its worth it

What does a text message cost? 10cents? If i can afford a Titan I can afford that.
