Yep, a love/hate relationship if there ever was one! That 1970 MG was my painful education on the inter-workings of an auto (the Midget was a pregnant rollerskate) when I was in high school! I pulled the engine five times in two years to replace burned-out clutchs and once a cluster-gear in the trany.
Everyone has mentioned how bad the Lucas electronics were, I also was coming back late one night (early morning) and pulled up to a light in my MG. I was in the worst possible area of my city and my MG Midget cut off. When I went to start her ...nothing. Well here I sit with a beautiful blonde beside me and it's 1 or 2:00 in the morning. There's nobody on the streets and all I see is this seedy looking bar on the corner!

Now picture this if you can, do I leave the girl in the car and go use the phone in the bar? Or do I take her with me?

Now in this neighborhood, believe me neither idea was a good option! I still shudder when I think about it! Lucky for me, I was never so glad to see a blue flashing light in my rear view mirror as I was that night! He showed up just in time.

We put my girlfriend in his car and I talked him into pushing me down the street so I could "pop" the clutch and start her back up. That was a freaky sight too, a cab driver stoped and helped him push me that looked like Cheech of Cheech & Chong fame! The clean cut policeman and he were in sharp contrast pushing that MG. I'll never forget that night. Six years later I made that blonde in the MG my wife! I don't think she ever knew just how dangerous the situation might have been that night.
