I'd highly recommend a .40 or a .45 ACP in any make. Discharging a pistol at a target beyond 10 yards is no longer considered a defensive shot in todays PC socialist community. They (the perp/s) almost have to be on top of you for a shooting to be considered a defensive act. You want a caliber that will "stop" the perp right at the point of impact with one pull of the trigger. With regular practice, using a "noob" .40 or a 45 ACP, you should be a dead shot within 10 yards.

9mm is a very good, accurate, low recoil "offensive" caliber, however, it lacks the stopping power of a 40 or a 45 ammo in a defensive "one shot do or die" scenario.

If you have a tendency of turning into a gun afficionado, a 45ACP in the 1911 version has the most aftermarket "mod" available to turn your gun into the most accurate-low recoil-goodlooking gun that you will enjoy for years to come.

Do yourself a favor and get a .40

Can't go wrong with the Sig... it's like having a Ferrari in your hands.

At the moment im looking for a good .45 handgun. I always loved my fathers WWII army issue .45 and would love to have one of my own. Any suggestions?
There are lots of 1911 .45's out there. If your looking for a replica of the original 1911, Springfield builds a Government model that's nice for a replica. Colt has a 1911 WWI repro that retails for $990...

Kind depends on your budget. I'm a dealer and can order in whatever you may be looking for.

I have a Glock 30 for carry, but my favorite toy is my Colt 1911.

.....or more just to make sure the perp won't be able to sue for "damages".

True, but if only ONE of your three rounds hits its target you want that one round to count. I'm happy to give up magazine capacity (8 rounds in my Sig 220) over a small 9mm for the stopping power.

All of this could be debated until Hillary Clinton becomes president...

Not bragging, but at 10 yards, all three .45's will be hitting the target.

God help us if Hillary makes it back into the white house.

I know what you're talking about. A couple of months ago when my friend was locking up his business there was a dude outside in the parking lot beating the bloody pulp out of his girlfriend. Some of the worker try to help and he punched a couple of them, threaten to go get his gun than finally drove his truck at high speed in their direction. My friend who have a concealed carry license pull out his gun and shot at the on-coming truck. The guy wreck into a couple of parked cars and side swipe a few more leaving the area. Police were call and after ward they reported a guy checking into a hospital. No charges were filed against my friend as it was determined to be self defense. About a month later he got a thing from court saying the guy he shot is suing him.

Yup, we are still open for Civil suits here in Texas for now. I did see that Florida passed a law recentl;y that removed the requirement to retreat and barred any Civil suites for those who defend themselves.

We need that law enacted here too.

If intended for home defense, a handgun is a poor substitute for a 12 gauge shotgun (e.g. Winchester 1300 w/ 18" barrel & 8 round capacity).

Just as long as there is nothing else in the area that you care about.

Yup, just another tool in the arsenal.
