I used to work at Bellevue's Psycho-Forensic unit populated with psycho-murderous Riker's Island inmates. CO's I've worked with had me convinced that the lawsuits are mostly initiated by the stupid survivor/s of a shot-out who will lie and change their story to favor their legal side. Either way, it's easier to prove self defense without the "perp" acting as an uncooperative witness.

In this "litigious society", the first shot may be justified but the second or succeeding shots may be termed with "malicious intent" or over-kill (pun intended). I sharpen my shooting skills with a dictum: "One shot - One kill"

Thank the lord, you took the words right out of my mouth.

If you can not hit your subject with one shot, you are either not in a position to shoot, or you should not be shooting in the first place. PEROID.

If you REALLY think that you need more than 2 shots to bring somebody down, you should not be shooting in the first place, or you need more stopping power. Now, I have heard of such cases where drugs are involved and the subject may continue. If you have used your 1 or 2 shots correctly, with the correct weapon, that will be a moot point.

Yep.

Two to the body and one to the head, 3 rounds should be enough and it wouldn't matter, .40, .45 or 9mm.

How about the AA12 automatic shotgun with a 20 round drum, recoil reduction and never needs to be cleaned or oiled:

Apparently they are now testing these on the insurgents in Iraq.

It's all a matter of training. I am proficient with the use of handguns and can hit the mark with a single shot, however, I have trained myself to fire three rounds, then check the target.

We all have our beliefs in how things should be, I knowe this will be my reaction should I ever have to fire. I only hope that I never have to do this...

double tappin with a 45 ACP is generally acceptable to any jury, and with the perp being carried by 12, is generally the best senerio. its what i call a win win situation.

Yep, the government loves the double-tap. The logic is, that two quickly fired rounds at center mass is more likely to disable the attacker than compared to one shot. Army and Texas LE swear by it.

Two is controllable, the third shot is less accurate (recoil, noise, smoke, offender movement, etc.)

Anyway, here's my setup (respectively, see attached pics):

< 1 yard = Spiderco First Line
> 1 yard to < 25 yrds = Meet Mr. Glock .357 SIG and his 10 friends + extra mags
> 25 yrds + = say hello to Mr. .338 Win Mag, nice to meet you out to 300+ yrds

That about covers it…

Have a nice day...
