Norton AntiSpam

I have had Norton AntiSpam for a year now and liked it. Now I am getting messages to pay for updates. I liked the way it worked and don't really want to pay for updates but now I'm getting spam like crazy even though all the functions are turned on. Is Norton doing something sinister to let spam through so that I have to buy the update.

Unfortunatley Norton is most likely not doing anything to let spam get through. spammers are figuring out a way around the filters that Norton has set up. I work for Amazon.com and no matter what we still all get alot of spam. I am not sure why they want you to pay for an update because that should be an included service but it sounds like they are trying to get money wherever possible.

I think Norton spends their down time making spam and virii so people need new versions of their products!

I don't use any spam-stopping software, but for e-mail I've been using Mozilla Thunderbird. It has an adaptive spam blocker that learns what is garbage as you go. I've had it for about 6 months, and it's pretty good at picking stuff out.
The stuff that comes through at first never gets through again if you flag it as junk. I did this with a bunch of stuff my wife gets from doing online ordering... Ticketmaster, Ebay, Time-Life, Lilian Vernon etc, all go right down the poop-chute before we ever see them. My internet provider does a pretty good job of weeding out the really malicious stuff like the infamous 144k "Important Update" virus.

I have Norton and haven't had problems with spam but I think yahoo filters out a lot too. If you don't want to pay for updates, try looking for software deals in the paper. Places like Fry's, Comp USA, etc. are always having Norton stuff really cheap if not free with rebates. I just buy the next year's version when they have a good sale and load it over the old version and you get another year plus the new software.
