Well I haven't shot this big guy since I got it last winter. I got rid of my little 9mm for some .45 grunt. I think it's time to take her to the range this afternoon...
I shoot bullseye in the winter, and then usually trap in the summer, but with my current work schedule, I just haven't been active lately.
I reload my own .45 shells, since any good target round is just too expensive in bulk. For .22's, Federal has come out with a new offering called "Champion" that I believe is replacing the old Lightnings. It's a very accurate load in my guns, and at around $12 a brick, very affordable to shoot a lot.

.22s ROCK. ~ .025 cents for one round... you just can't go wrong!
22's are fun. When I was a kid-13 in 1964-we would go to Western Auto and buy shells.A box of 50 22 shorts was about 39 cents-LR were about 49-59 cents. When I got my High standard pistol I was stuck with shooting expensive LR.Of course,a box lasted all afternoon-maybe 2 afternoons. My buddy had a little single shot 22 that would shoot all 3 22's,he could shoot the cheaper shorts.
Bck then we would just go behind the levee and shoot bottles, cans, leaves etc.Toss them in the river and blast away. One time a ship radioed the local cops to say we had shot the side.We hadn't(not by intent, but maybe a bouncer-we were young and stupid). The local cop scared the crap out of us and let us go with our guns.We were maybe 12-13.Different times!Charlie

If you like .22's you would love a 22WM cartridge or 17WM. Compact, cheap, accurate and low impact so you can shoot all day. You'de love what it does to a varmit at 75 yards.
At the moment im looking for a good .45 handgun. I always loved my fathers WWII army issue .45 and would love to have one of my own. Any suggestions?
I have a glock 23 .40 that I try and get out to shoot when I fish/4 wheel. It's a great gun. I would imagine that the glock .45 would be just as impressive, if not better.

We are the same age. I remember western auto as the place to get .22's when I was a teenager. We'd go to the dump and sit reel still and wait for the rats to come out and play. Some were pretty big and it took a head shot to set one down. At the end of the day the guy with the highest score was......you guessed it, VERMAN!!!!
Depends on which .45 glock you are talking about. The G30 has a pretty good reputation for accuracy (for a Glock). I rely on mine as a carry weapon -- once I figured out the trigger (grew up with 1911s), it does well enough for a defensive weapon. One of my coworkers carries a G36 (the subcompact) and prefers it over the G30 (mid-size, but fullsize for my purposes).
For a good inexpensive 1911, try a Kimber or Springfield. You get what you pay for, so bear that in mind when buying a 1911. However, I like both manufacturers, though Kimber gets the nod if I 'had' to choose one for an inexpensive model. For truly serious 1911 carry, Wilson Combat makes a darn good weapon, but their models are a bit tougher on the wallet -- again, you get what you pay for. 8>
radiokid, when I got old enough to drive-maybe 14 back them in Louisiana-we could drive to the dump to shoot cans-lotta fun, but,I can still smell that funky dump smell-ugh!!
Spent a lot of time with 22's.
SC186-The Sig45 is very nice-had a couple.I have had good luck with Gold Cups-70 and 80 series. They are considered passe now,but they are pretty accurate(much more accurate than I am) and come from the factory with a nice trigger pull. They say the series 80's have a "hitch" in the trigger pull, but they feel fine to me.You should be able to pick up a good used one for maybe $600-$700 in SS.They aren't as finicky about ammunition as more expensive accurized guns. The Springfield and Kimber are very nice pistols also.I guess I'm still fond of Colt written on my 45.I doubt it is actually better than they are,and as a shooting utensil the Sigs and Glocks are hard to beat. The Sig or Glock would be more reliable than a 1911 style pistol, and the DA-or long trigger pull- is a safety advantage also.Charlie

Very nice! Sig's are such sweet shooters, and I love .45.
Some of my pics were posted in an older thread, but I'll throw them in again.
There are a few more I've never photographed, including the obligatory Ruger 10/22 and a semi-unusual Savage bolt action 12 gauge with a detachable mag, but here is the basic collection.
Savage MKII .22, Ruger MKII 5.5 Target, Parkerized Springfield .45, Colt "New" .22 (1865), Kahr PM9. The PM9 is my carry gun. I had a Glock 26 but found it too klunky (I'll never carry double stack again after carrying the Kahr) and hated the trigger. The Kahr has a longer double action only pull, but is very smooth. Other picture is a Romanian AK-47 and Springfield .45. The .45 is a sweet shooter for the price and is a very nice carry gun for cooler weather. Its a bit klunky to conceal in the summer. Considering a Kel-Tec P3AT as an optional summer carry gun, but I'm not crazy about .380 or Kel-Tec quality. It is very tiny though.
range? whats a range? oh its like my back yard the forest with little paper thingys to aim at minus the thick vegetation and minus the pigs lol nice pieces guys.

Avid shooter here too and here's my pair of Colt 1911 45 ACPs: Custom 2-tone Gold Cup National Match with daytime laser and a polished SS Gov't model with Tritium sights. Both are fitted with Smith-Alexander magwell with checkered mainspring housing, titanium trigger-commander hammer-firing pin combo, Caspian extended cartridge extractor, Wilson beavertail, full length spring guides, lower rated springs, extended mag release, extended mag bumpers, checkered alumagrips, etc.etc. Haven't had much time at the range due to too many ongoing projects.
I'm thinking hard about picking up a Sig 229 9mm for my first gun. Any other recommendations? I want something dead reliable for a noob and 9mm so the ammo is cheap.
One of my many toys, all at home locked up this one is with me at work.
Springfields Armory XD9, very nice gun (it will also except a high capacity mag from beretta or sig.
Notice in the magazines are "banned" Black Talons.
Locked up at home are: Beretta .40, Styer AUG, and Styer SPP.
