3 Valves?

I've been wondering about this for a while but never could find any info on it.
On Ford's SOHC motors that uses 3 valves per cylinder, is the third valve for intake or exhaust?
It bugs me not to know.

Re: 3 Valves?

Twin intake valves, single exhaust.

Typical Ford cheap-out

The folks above have mentioned it is 2 intake-1 exhaust;this is a typical Ford accountant cheapout.3 valve motors have been around forever-Honda put them in several 2 cyl motorcycle motors of late 70's early 80's vintage. They have no advantage over a 4 valve head other than being cheaper. For just a little more $$(few dollars a cyl) they could have a better 4 valve head, but they went for the cheapout and that 5.4 is a bit of a dog-no more zip than the pushrod 2 valve chevy 5.3(a decent motor).Cheap!!Thanks.Charlie

Re: 3 Valves?

And did you all see the new F150 commercial how the 3-valves design allow it to lift the big semi? It didn't say anything about the tow rating, just a claim that it's high. As for lifting that semi, my minivan can do it if I put that many pulleys in the system!!! How lame!
