I think it is a software bot that is used to index for their search engine.

You are somewhat correct. I'm 48. My first computer was an 8086 speed, 4 megabytes of Memory, 5.25 floppy and had a 20 MG (not 20 GB!) Hardrive. Cost $2,300. That's old!
