This is why the wife doesn't get a new car!!!!

well,

my beautiful young bride who just got her driver's license last month and drove about 10 hours in her life in the last few months did it. I was working on my truck (in the street vs. driveway luckily) while I watched her hit the gas into the garage door. I don't think she hit the brake at all

I of course checked to see if she was ok then I was obviously bothered somewhat. Not only she took the door out she scratched up my very nice S2000. I'm not going through car insurance cause it will just raise my rates.

Funny thing last night she was talking about a Lexus and I told her she needed to drive for a while before she gets a new car. Now I have proof for the rest of her life.

Homeowners insurance?

Wow, bet she is being real nice to you now.

Glad she wasn't hurt, that's what really matters anyway.

Re: This is why the wife doesn't get a new car!!!!

Sorry to hear that dude...she sure "t-boned" that garage door, huh?

My wife did the same thing two years ago but from the inside. She climbed into her car, got busy with sorting some mail, got ready to leave and forgot to open garage door with her clicker, and 'bam'. Cost me $1500 to fix the garage door. Her Ford Explorer escaped without any serious damage, just a few scratches. I'm sure that I shared my thoughts with my wife when she told me what had happened.

Re: This is why the wife doesn't get a new car!!!!

D A M N rcantu - sure am glad no one was injured. Reminds me of the Audi "unintended acceleration" debacle back in the eighties (http://www.auto123.com/en/info/news/...id=22184&pg=1).

Just a couple of weeks ago we had an elderly lady trying to park in a handicapped space in front of our K-B toy store. Yep, you guessed it - she hit the accel instead of the brake and drove up on the curb, through the front windows of the store and into the store some 40 feet! Luckily, there were no serious injuries or fatalities.

Re: This is why the wife doesn't get a new car!!!!

sometimes I would watch her come into the driveway and I'd stand in front of the car. we'll lucky i didn't do that today!

yeah these things happen and can be fixed. I actually wanted a new garage door but not this way!

lucky I put some $ into mods already.

Re: This is why the wife doesn't get a new car!!!!

Expensive driving lesson for her. Glad to hear she's alright. Likely, that little accident helped her driving, mentally, quite a bit. She'll always have that in the back of her mind now, ya'know?
Should make for killer "Guilt-$ex" for awhile at least.
