New Gtech #'s! Air Temp vs. ET's
I posted this thread at one of the Dodge forums
but I thought you would find the results interesting.
I am doing research on the effects of air temperature
on ET's. I now need to get some 70ish deg times next.
That will be a little harder because even in the warm
summer our lows run in the high 50's to high 60's.
If I wait for the temp to rise into the 70's I have to
then be concerned with the wind kicking up. Just
that nature of the weather beast here in the SF
Bay area.
I thought I would start doing more Gtech runs showing
the effect of air temperature on elapsed times. Well,
today I started the research project. I did four runs this
morning. Two 0-60 runs and two 1/4 mile runs. I don't
do as many full 1/4 mile runs as I use to because I
can accurately determine what those times will be by
the 0-60 runs. I also only do runs in one direction (south)
now. This is because I can't run the exact same stretch
of road in the North bound direction. Not safe. I have done
some comparison testing on a road that I know was slightly uphill.
This road has four lanes, is smooth, and has cement rain
gutters on both sides. The water runoff flows in the opposite
direction as my runs so I know it's uphill. My data shows
that these uphill runs are running 15/100ths to 2/10ths of
a second slower than the road that I have concluded is
quite level. Perfect? No!! But pretty close. Here are the results
for today.
Temp. 60 deg.
Wind N/A
Humidity 75%
BP 29.97 in/hg.
Fuel level 3/8 tank
Tire pressure 38 psi
Run #1 0-60 5.98
Run #2 0-60 6.00
Run #3 0-60 6.00 1/4 mile 14.49@94.5
Run #4 0-60 6.04 1/4 mile 14.45@94.5
Here are some past runs showing the effects of air temp.
3/1/06
44 deg.
Run #1 0-60 5.89 14.40@94.7
Run #2 0-60 5.92 14.42@94.8
3/8/06
37 deg.
BP 30.12 in/hg. *Note* Low temp and high BP really had
a positive effect on these runs.
Run #1 0-60 5.78 14.31@95.2
Run #2 0-60 5.79 14.31@95.0
Run #3 0-60 5.82 14.34@95.0
5/17/06
52 deg
BP 29.85 in/hg. *Note* Even though the temp was not
that warm notice how the low BP effected times.
Run #1 0-60 6.06
Run #2 0-60 6.03
Run #3 0-60 6.04
I have also been watching my speedo when my Gtech
flashes the 1/4 mile point. My speedo MPH's are apx
1.00 to 1.50 lower than the speed shown on the Gtech.
If you ever get a Gtech make sure you get yourself
a little book and log every run you do. Include the weather,
tire pressure and fuel tank level. It's better to have all those
numbers written down then it is to rely on your memory.
