Alright, my bro bought me a new hard drive for my comp and I installed it and made it my master drive disabled the other drive on system boot so that I could leave as is and just install windows on the new hardrive and still be able to scan through the old drive for files and stuff I got saved...anyway...it installed and everything went smooth (used the windows disk that came with the comp [Dell Computer]) now when I try to update my windows it wont let me...it says I needa register or some cr@p (see pic below)... I called windows and they told me if I needed help to give them my CC number and they would help me for a 35 dollar charge...Im like WTF? I guess its better to get pirated stuff...Im not paying u sh!t...I already bought the computer with windows so I already paid for windows...why do I have to pay more...she just laughed and said oh well we cant help u then...so I called back spoke to someone else...they had me check the windows to see if it was activated by going to run and typing "oobe/msoobe/a" it said windows is activated and they said it shouldnt give u any probs...I said ok let me try while on the phone... tried it and still same stuff...so whats up? what can I do? How do I register (they said I didnt need to it was optional, but then my windows wont update??)? I dunno, anyone know something I can do?
it gives an option to click...I clicked it says downloading then 100% goes back but then the same thing...
EDIT: I guess the pics not to good but it says
"Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed in your computer. To continue:
Register or reinstall the files for me now(Recommended)"
it's probably licensed to your original harddrive.
why don't you just you the original HD as you had it and make your new one the large slave. it's plug and play and you don't get this hassle. move any big files to your new HD.

do u haveyour xp disk with the numbers on it?
You can reinstall window as many times as you want to just have to call microsoft to give u new numbers to register it. Microsoft lest you reinstall windows 3 time before you have to call them. I doit all the time, I build my own computers

no, I have the reinstalation disk that says distribute with a new computer...and I want to take out the old hardrive thats why I did it this way...gonna use it somewhere else...
It's reffering to registering the Windows Update files in the Windows registry not XP. Windows went from Windows update to Microsoft Update which is suppose to update all MS products in one step. Microsoft update would likely NOT be on your original disk. It should load the files you need. What happens when you click continue with the recommened procedure selected?
