Watkins Glen this weekend

Anyone else going to be there this weekend for the NASCAR races???

It will be my first race, always have wanted to go to one, just never made it out. My brother works for Ingersol Rand and they are sponsoring the #9 busch car this weekend, and Said will be driving. Should be a good time......

So far this is what i plan on taking:
ear plugs
scanner with headset
binoculars
2 cases of beer

My bro said I get a free cooler with my ticket, so that is taken care of.

Any other recommendations????

And if anyone else will be there, zip me a msg, i'd love to meet up.

Take your digital camera and make sure the batteries are fully charged. There are more naked-women photo opportunities at a NASCAR race than at a strip joint! Oh, and don't forget a cap & sunblock! Beer seems to make the skin more susceptible to burns!

Re: Watkins Glen this weekend

Sorry, no fan od NASCAR at all, but I do love the track, and in fact teach there for BMW CCA and other groups. If you have never been there let me suggest you do some watching from outside Turn One in the grandstand called The Ninety. It sounds like you are there with some VIP benefits, but seeing some action from this location should be near the top of your list of things to do.

I would suggest some sunscreen packed too... along with your most comfortable shoes as you should get a lot of walking in.

Re: Watkins Glen this weekend

thanks guys...

Can anyone recommend a nicer scanner for me to buy??? Something in the 1 - 200 range..... I've been reading up on the net, but am still not too sure. I'd like something that could be useful outside of the track too... not so sure how much i'd use it, but i like to buy once, and buy right.

Re: Watkins Glen this weekend

I've never been to the Glen but have always wanted to go. I've seen several races at the other road course, Infineon (formerly Sears Point). The coolest part about that track to me is the back section (which is the fasted part, they get up to i think about 155-165)) where they come thru a section called the S's. At speed they are drifting all four coming thru the corners, its totally awesome to watch them control the car thru this and often just inches from the car in front. Dale Earnhart to me was the best at doing that at this track. If there is any section like that at Watkins i would recommend trying to watch some of the race from there.
