Need help on the Se-R

OK so i installed an intake and header (4-2-1)on my se-r. There was 2 things I did wrong (thank God it was only 2) 1 was the the little screen on the MAF got lost when it was blew away by wind. So the intake is installed without it. 2 I was able to get the 1st 02 sensor off (the one in the header) but i needed to get an 02 sensor socket for the one on the downpipe. So i drove like 2 days without a 2nd o2 sensor. The problem is that in R or D the car will sputter down to like 200 rpm and try to kick back up to idle, sometimes it fails and it stalls. This only happens when im in R or D and at idle, not P or N and not when im crusing. Its like the computer it trying to find an idle speed but it cant for some reason. I got the 02 sensor out and plugged into the new downpipe, and made a screen for the maf (out of 20-20 fine screen). I took off the neg term from the batt and let it sit for about 15 mins. I just started the car up for a short time and it seems like its doing a better job at the idle thing but is still having trouble finding idle. any suggestions?

Re: Need help on the Se-R

It sounds like a MAF issue. Has it thrown a code (check engine light on)? Two thoughts:

1) Not having seen the original MAF screen - is the fabricated screen significantly finer mesh? Maybe the air volume going past the MAF is being restricted by too fine mesh.

2) Are you sure the MAF is not installed backwards? One side is heated and it has to be correctly positioned relative to air flow.

Re: Need help on the Se-R

check for a leak on the engine side intake tube of the MAF sensor. Outside air getting in past the MAF could cause this.

Re: Need help on the Se-R

Nissans with the pre-MAF screen will run like crap without the screen in place. Not only will you have idle issues, but your car will run lean and pull timing way back. I'd start there, buy a new screen if possible, and work towards the throttle body for leaks.

Re: Need help on the Se-R

yeah this screen might be the issue, can i pick up the the screen at any place, or the dealership, or do i need to find a maf at a junk yard. Also if something did happen to either the maf or the 02 sensor are both of them generic nissan parts, meaning if i have to go to the junkyard can i pick one up from any newer nissan or do i need to get it from a sentra se-r?

Re: Need help on the Se-R

i guess this is the part I need. I dont assume the dealer carries this piece by itself. Maybe a shop might have one or maybe if the dealer was cool they could give me one, again if this piece is a universal screen for any MAF
