I know a few people from various middle eastern countries. Most have been here for many years and are very "americanized" or integrated into our society. They thrive within this, their adopted country. I'm glad to hang out with them, talk, laugh, and share experiences. They add a lot to the essence of the USA.

I would guess that as a general rule, the Muslims that are here have been very well integrated into our society (if they choose to). This is not like Great Britian, Germany, or France where integration of middle easterners is minimal or non-existent and is very much part of their problem. I'm sure Gemany is thinking at this time "why would they want to blow us up..we leave them alone and don't bother them, they can do as they please, why us."

The fact that we have been able to integrate them so successfully has greatly hampered the extremists from wreaking havoc here. I'll bet there are millions of middle easterners here and the thought of performing an act of terrorism is the farthest thing from their mind.

On the other hand, you got that little POS in the mud hut in Afghanistan for example being told since birth that we are to blame for his problems. He has no future, no hope, only some hairy, stinky imam telling him how to make his life better. Then he is told he can be rewarded greatly for doing violent acts against innocent people.

I can sympathize with the idea that introducing democracy into this type of a culture can help to break down the ignorance and intolerance. But that isn't how it works. Unfortunately, these people aren't reading from the same script "W" and "DC" either. We need to realize that our culture and values can not be exported like Levis and Madonna. Nor can it be shoved down their throat via a 500 pound guided bomb. It has to come from within their culture. There needs to be a very enigmatic, charismatic figure that can speak to the masses and say "this idea of jihad is wrong". Until someone with this extraordinary vision and influence comes out of this Islamic culture it will never change. Those people that do not agree with these violent teachings are too afraid to speak up. Right now, people like OBL is doing the talking and everyone else just keeps quiet like bunch of sheep. Now we have this d*** in Iran who is really just a puppet. But I'll beat he really scares the crap out of the general populace of Iran.

Very well put Lon. That is just it. Niave people believe that they are like us and all we need to do is sit down a talk like good little Christians. But it don't work like that. They WANT to die. That way they can get their 71 virgins. Yup 71 Shawn I am sure got to one of them first!!!
