A Titan Bites the dust.

A friend has a lawn mowing service and his guys killed his Titan Sat. They aren't sure if it was a blowout on the trailer or what, but the trailer started swinging, to the point of hitting the passenger side of the truck, then as it swung around to the otherside, it came off the hitch and rolled throwing large Gravley mowers and weed whackers all over I70. In the process of trying to control the truck, they slammed it into a guard rail and ran it down the drivers side of the truck. the trailer hit the side so hard it broke the aluminum wheel and they are sure the frame is bent, of course when you have a 20' enclosed trailer with 4 60" mowers and assorted smaller equipment swing, its gonna do some damage. At least no one was injured which is amazing considering it was I70 and mowers flew quite a distance.

Re: A Titan Bites the dust.

I hope no one got hurt, but I sure feel for your friend. I had a mowing biz for 13 yrs., that I did as a side biz and I know that the loss of a commercial mower is about 10G's. Then one high end weed trimmer alone is 300$. Not to mention lost time on customer lawns, the truck, etc. My heart goes out to him.

He lost 4 of the Gravley's at $9500 each, 3 weed whackers, 2 pushmowers, tools and spare parts are God knows where in the median, a 20' enclosed car hauler, and an 06 Titan SE CC, and yes it had VDC. Fortunately its at the end of the season so he has the winter to get it straightened out and replaced.....but he has several large comercal accounts he doesn't want to loose. But on the bright side, not a scratch on anyone.

That and about 5 55gal barrels of Bondo.

He discovered today he may be SLIGHTLY under insured. It could take a while to hash out. I've offered my trailer if he needs it, but not my Titan. I'll loan alot of stuff out, but NOBODY gets the TItan.

ZTR Mowers, weedwhackers, edgers, blowers, etc. Disorganization of his crews. Demands of his customers. All are tough. I understand all. Tell your friend there is a guy 1000 miles aways that has him in his prayers. Here is the cool part: The essence of the American entrepeneur is the lawn guy. You can start with a push mower and build. You can be kicked down to nothing, and rebuild with a push mower. I've done it. It sucks to rebuild. Grass grows back.

Re: A Titan Bites the dust.

He's taking it in stride. He had one large walk behind still at the shop. What the insurance doesn't cover, he plans on slowly rebuilding. He has his contracting liecense so Ive been subbing some things from him to help him keep his guys right now. One of his guys has some HVAC training so a friend with a HVAC company is going to help keep him busy until all this gets straightend out. When you own a small business, you get more of an idea what he's going through so several of us are doing what we can till he gets back on his feet. He appreciates your thoughts and will tty to get me some pics.
