You think they're still making money at that price BKW? I haven't a clue what the margin is. Not to the dealer I mean, but to DaimlerChrysler.
Yes...barely...but remember the so called 'invoice price' is just for the suckers...no dealer could stay in business a week if the invoice price reflected the real price they paid.
According to Automotive News...DC clears an average of 11 grand on every Grand Cherokee they sell to their dealers...so imagine what they make on the higher priced stuff.

You're absolutely right about that. I knew that part, but it's the 11 grand per Grand Cherokee thing I was wondering about. I hadn't any idea what DC made selling to the dealer. And you're right too about the high end stuff. The bad thing is what marking the bottom out of prices is doing to the residual value for the consumer who had already bought their vehicle. Can you say upside down?

What makes me laugh is most insiders in the industry know that GM vastly overprices their trucks...every weekend here there are big sales ads in the papers...list 37K this weekend 24K....offer expires...blah blah blah.
Those discounted prices haven't changed over the past several years.
So someone buys one...WOW saved 13K!
Not really....instead of the 25%+ depreciation off the 37K figure...it's really 25% off the 24K figure....
Meaning if you finance, you're already upside down...the second you sign the contract.
Lets face it. Most of our vehicles are, and will always be depreciating assets. Nothing more. I do wish I could take 5 or 6 grand back in time to the world of the Cobra.

Original 289 powered Cobra's were around $4,500.00 ..now worth 6 figures.
GT 350 Mustangs were around $3500.00...now worth 50-80 grand plus.

Exactly right. For an ROI, that's not bad in the automotive world. Certainly not like Dell stock a decade and a half ago, but none the less. Maybe a GT500KR convertible?
