thoughts on the SS

i actually looked at a new 06 SS before I bought my Titan and was serious about buying it...had all the papers drawn up just had to sign on the line and it was mine...then I realized that although stock the Titan may be slightly slower...i've got wayy more room (crew cab) I can tow more, and i can go off road. why would I buy the SS again?? If I wanted a truck for the sole purpose of speed I would have gotten a used lightning or perhaps an SRT ram. i'm not really sure why all the SS guys talk so much **** about the Titan. we've got them beat in every category you can think of when it comes to trucks besides stock for stock 0-60 and 1/4 and even then they dont have us beat by much

so if you ask me, of all the trucks that were made for "speed" the SS is the slowest one of them all and by far. seems to me they are the ones that lost out

and just to note, I had a tahoe and an S10 (problem free for both) before I bought my Titan so I am by no means against chevy

lol...i'm not trying to start anything but i just don't see what all the big ego is about with the SS (and yes, not everyone who owns an SS has a big ego but just check out the SS forum to see some that do)

i like chevy trucks and i was a few seconds away from getting a damn SS so i am not trying to say they are crap..but if you bought a truck to just go fast in then you should've bought a different one

Re: thoughts on the SS

you know. ive been a chevy guy all my life(although that will hopfully end soon when i get my TITAN later this month!), i really dug the way the SS looked (in 05 when i was looking), but after a test drive i was butt hurt. it was imo a dog. with 4.10 gears and6.0 liter 345hp it should surely be faster than my moded 5.3 with 3.42 gearing. but it wasnt. my friend in the back seat kept saying,"isnt urs faster?", for $40,000+ it is not worth it. i think the AWD drains all the power to the wheels. it drove smooth but felt heavy. you made the right choice

Re: thoughts on the SS

Here we go again!

I do like them, but I wanted something a little more unique than the SS...Also, I think of the SS as a truck designed for the road..I like to be able to take mine offroad if I want to and not worry about messing anything up. Has anyone ever seen a lifted SS?

From what I hear, you can the SS's a lot cheaper than sticker, just like we can with our Titans.

the one i looked at was an 06 with 13k miles and the bottom line was $28,xxx OTD...and that was with $2,200 down and no trade in..this was at a large chevy dealership BTW

Re: thoughts on the SS

I love the way they look, but really needed something capable of doing light off roading. Considered it briefly, but too expensive and didn't meet my needs.

Re: thoughts on the SS

I have a buddy that has the SS and it's a damn nice ride. The thing about the SS or the others is that the aftermarket companies cater to the Big Three and we're sucking hind tit trying to get anything and even if we do we pay big $$$ for it. So yes, the total package of the Titan is why I have one over the others. If I want to go fast I'll get a sports car.

Re: thoughts on the SS

Like you said before the SS stock is the slowest in its class. So I say Why?? If your looking for something in that class (speed trucks) spend the same money new and go Lightning. A little moding and the Titan for $40,000 + can really go fast on and offroad!!! Not to mention pulling more. So in my opinion the SS is a waist of metal.

Re: thoughts on the SS

Its also kind of weird what they're doing with the new trucks. Instead of basing the SS on the new truck, they're calling them Silverado Classics, which means its the current model year, but the old truck. Wonder how long before they migrate them over, or if they'll pull a classic GM dumbass move and just discontinue everything based on the old truck.

Re: thoughts on the SS

Well I own a 2003 SS and I can tell you why I bought mine. I can tow as much as I need to ( A 21 ft bayliner with no problem). I can go off road as much as I need to with the AWD not for serious 4X4 but I don't do that. If you think a 5.3 is faster stock than a stock 6.0 in the same style vech your mistaken maybe in a reg cab not an ext cab. After market parts are great I beat most lightnings, SRT10,s, Hemis with no problem. I paid 34,000 OTD for a 41,000 truck new in March of 03. I love how it looks. Gas mileage isn,t to bad considering AWD with 20" wheels. 14 city 17 hwy in mine. I have nithing bad to say about anyones truck theres no a truck made that is everything to everyone. Would I buy one again. I doubt it there not AWD anymore and I would try something else maybe a Titan.
