9/80 Work Schedule

My Compnay is pushing for a 9/80 work schedule and all the Non-Exempt ( hourly ) employees will be voting by ballot next month. This is a State of California requirement since we would be changing the standard Over 8 hours a day OT law.

I am for it, can't see why working a extra hour or 30 minutes a day ( shorter lunch ) and getting every other Friday off is bad.

My question to anyone who has done this, what's the pro's and con's ? A lot of people have asked me about it and of course since I am for it it's all positives.

Thanks

P, I have done this before, we(Fed Gov.) call it flex scheduling. You work 8 days at 9 hours, and 1 day at 8 hours, and have every other Fri. off. We had a choice of our day off. Some would take the first or second Mon, and others took the first or second Fri. It is really nice to have a three day weekend every two weeks. I think you'll like it!!

Re: 9/80 Work Schedule

We have comp time where I work, though technically, it's illegal. But the employees like it since we sometimes need to schedule medical appointments or school meetings during the day. As long as we make it up within the pay period, it's cool.

At first, I thought you meant that we should work 9 hours (minutes?) out of every 80 hours. I figure I do that already, so what's the problem?

Re: 9/80 Work Schedule

I work a flex schedule, but I work for the Canadian Gov and in Canada they work a 37.5 hour week. So I put in 8.33 hrs a day and get every other Monday off. I like it, gives you something to look forward to.

Re: 9/80 Work Schedule

We have minimum 55 hour work weeks during busy season, but I've been working around 70 hours per week lately. Busy season for us is mid Jan through the second week in March.

Re: 9/80 Work Schedule

I work 7 days straight, then have 7 days off. I could never go back to working m-f. I also get 21 vacation days a year.

Re: 9/80 Work Schedule

I've got flextime at my work, we have these choices:
8hrs everyday
8.5hrs every 3rd friday off
9hrs every 2nd friday off
10hr every friday off
A lot of people choose to work 9 or 10 hrs a day. I choose 9 for me. Every second friday off is really nice, especially in the summertime and when a holiday falls on that week, you'll get an extra long weekend, 4 days off. i'm totally all for it, what's an extra 1hr, when you get a long weekend every week/other week. all positives for me.

Re: 9/80 Work Schedule

9/80 rocks man, you'd love it. Can't beat the three day weekends. It also works out nice for holidays too. Lets use Thanksgiving for an example. Thursday and Friday are holidays, and lets say Friday was supposed to be your day off. They should give you wednesday before or monday after off instead.

4/10's is even better though.
