Test Drove 5.7l Tundra Today!

...AND theres nothing for TITAN's to worry about as far as I can tell. The 5.7L makes power but is not noticably faster than the TITAN at all. The brakes are nice and big. The overall exterior looks like a Ford Winstar on steroids. The interior is alright unless you want the DVD Navi feature which is almost sitting in the passengers lap because you seriously have to have gorilla arms to reach the buttons on it from the drivers seat. The CrewMax cab is to be at dealers in March. The truck rides pretty smooth but comparable to the TITAN unless compared to the Off Road TITAN. A rear view camera option is available as well.

The sales guy was bragging about how many "standard features" the new tundra has, like the gas charged tailgate and such which is cool but toyota missed some large details like the spray in bedliner that SHOULD be standard, as I told the guy and he had nothing to say and gave me a look like I had pizza stuck on my face.

Lets back up a little too. When I first pulled up to the dealership I looked and noticed the cones thru-out the parking lot, looked closer, COOOOL! They had a small track set up! I parked my truck next to the new tundra to compare sizes, about the same... nobody would help me for the longest time, being 20yrs old, 21 in a couple days, they were helping the 30-40 yr olds because apparently a person of economical standings wasn't good enough... so I almost grabbed a guy by the hand and said, I want to test drive this truck! He says to me "What do you drive?" And me standing proud of the TITAN, I say "That green looking TITAN right there".... he says "Oh, well prepare to be amazed". I say "and whats that supposed to mean?" As I notice the brand new 2007 Ram 5.7L, Chevy 1500, and F-150 5.4L, he says to me "These are Tundra's competitors.... we bought these for comparison, we didn't think the TITAN was much of a competitor", Trying to hold back from my shoe in his a$$ for that comment I say, "Show me". And then we proceed to test drive the piece of junk. As far as the TITAN and Tundra go, I would say they are more comparable than any other of those trucks, but perhaps thats why they didn't have one there....

Overall I hate the new tundra, it was such a disappointment. Other than the more powerful towing capabilities(engine and brakes), this truck would be undesirable. I will just buy a new TITAN.

Re: Test Drove 5.7l Tundra Today!

I must say, I wasn't impressed with the Tundra either. I did not test drive one, however I spent considerable amount of time going over one at the Baltimore Auto Show yesterday. Don't know what this marketing and publicity hype is all about, but for the money, I would stick with the Titan!

Re: Test Drove 5.7l Tundra Today!

I didn't think it was anything outstanding either. Maybe it's becuase I all have a impressive truck. Maybe if I went from a F 150 to the Tundra I would impressed.

will it beat a Titan, I don't but for what they advertise for power and the cost it better. I liked the Tundra so much I went next door to the Nissan dealer and bought a second Titan for my wife.

Re: Test Drove 5.7L Tundra Today!

yeah i think the only thing he could do to amaze me after that seriously disappointly test drive is if he would have pulled michael jackson and turned his skin white right before my eyes. not only that, but just how each and everyone of the sales guys talked about the vehicle as if it came from the clouds above like God's gift to trucks. no matter what i said when i was comparing my truck to theirs... mine was apparently something that sh!t heads buy. i can't wait for the diesel titan, it just isn't coming soon enough.

i can see it now.... this truck is just going to be a huge flop, IMHO.

I can't get past the cheap *** look of the Tundra to waste my time driving one. Plus I owned one for six years and it wasn't that impressive to begin with.

Re: Test Drove 5.7l Tundra Today!

IMO the new 5.7 Tundra seems poorly made. Interior isn't that impressive compared to the TITAN. I do agree the HP and the 6spd trans. is great but that is it. I did take a 4x4 offroading and it was alright. So to me, NO I would never consider buying a Tundra ever...

Im about to buy a second TITAN 4x4 CC BT LE on top of what I have now

Sounds like they didn't want the Titan for fear of it showing up the Tundra. lol

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the reg cabs are fast, but for the money...I'll wait and see what Goshn comes up with for '09.

Re: Test Drove 5.7l Tundra Today!

For the pricing I would buy a diesel. More room, more power and better gas mileage.

That's just it. Tundra (besides the new Cady Ext) has the highest HP and Torque, for this year. It's funny to see all of these die hard Chevy, Ford, or even Titan fans jumping on the Tundra bandwagon. Yeah, the Tundra has some cool new things, not to mention the 381 hp 5.7. BUT.......Just like the Titan, how long will it stay on top.

If you read my other post about the Dodge salesmen experience over the weekend, the 2008 Dodge will have the 6.1 Hemi making 420 hp and 445 ft #'. If that truck ever comes out, I'm sure it will beat the Tundra and we will be able to read a 1000 posts on the new Dodge.

Look at the diesel market, it seems every year now there is a new leader in HP and Torque. At least in my opinion, HP and Torque are great, but it doesn't make the truck alone.

Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, but if you are looking for a "fast truck" go buy the SRT-10. You can find them for close to the loaded 5.7 Limited Tundra price!

Re: Test Drove 5.7l Tundra Today!

When I test drove one yesterday I noticed it has less ground clearance (at least in front) than my Titan. The saleman had to back it off a concrete pad and onto the regular part of the parking lot. It had to go down a big step. The front end almost scraped. When I parked my truck next to it, 04 CC SE 4x4, it looked like I could clear the same step no problem.
The stupid plastic trim piece right in the middle of the hood near the top is well.......stupid.

you know... thats exactly what i was thinking as he told me that. because when we went thru the cones in the parking lot, i felt as though my truck handled the same and even power wise it was comparable. i think the tundra weighs more because with all that power it wasn't noticably quicker. i honestly think if they had a TITAN there, then people would test drive it and then say "Hey, where can I get one of these here TITANs" lol
