I stopped by the dealer today to look at a new Tundra Crewcab Limited. Iwas surprised by a few things. I sat in the truck and noticed that the layout was quite good but the silver textured paint on the dash looked quite cheap and I think will wear quickly. I bet they change to a aluminum insert like the LE Titan Crews did in 2006. The rear seat was veeery small compared to the Titan crew. It was very similar in size to the Dodge crewcabs. It was a bit of a tight squeeze to get up into the back behind the driver seat. I liked the use of black trim panels around the back and upper areas of the driver area...looked very sharp. I thought they would have used a little nicer materials overall in the Limited. For the extra money over an LE titan, the Titan has better quality materials in the interior. Looking under the truck was a bit of a surprise. That must must be one of the biggest differentials I have seen. It has 3 distinct sections...a rear cover, a center carrier housing, and a huge front section for the pinion. It did not look like a cast unit at all....nothing like the Titan unit. I am sure the truck will sell but I was surprised at what was lacking....and what was included.

Yes it sounds like Toyota learned well from the Titan...and where the titan went wrong.
Overbuild everything that matters: Engine, Tranny, Rearend, Brakes.
The interior fit and finish..who cares. Most truck owners are looking for a truck with bawls that won't break down.
Initially, it looks like the yota fits the bill. I was surprised that they didn't try to add a killer new feature.

Are you sure it was a Crew (Double Cab)? I thought the crew cabs weren't out until later this year.
The extracab (or whatever they call it...Titans version of of the King Cab) has traditional doors. Not suicide doors like ours. Actually ours are much better (open wider and have much better entry room).
As for materials...Titan could use some improvements. Toyota will lilely have an advantage there.
Layout...I think Titan has an advantage. I"ve commented on other threads, so here are some short bullets:
- Instrument cluster is terrible on Tundra. Steering wheel blocks view and the individual gauges are not very viewer friendly. Titan's sight lines are much better.
- Seats...Narrow in Tundra...Center console intrudes...Titan is more comfortable (even if Tundra has nicer cloth).
- Dash...radio and climate controls are more accessible and viewable in Titan.
- Differential...Yep...Tundra wins. But, after my rear end was replaced with the ZH05D...it has been just fine with moderate off road and towing.
- Titan doesn't look pregnant.
Sorry...I was using objective reasoning until that last bullet.

It had to be the double cab that you viewed as the crew cabs won't be out for a couple of months or so. I was just at Toyota dealership to look at the Tundra and compare it to the '07 Titan I ordered. I thought the truck had many positive things about it, but I was turned off by the interior, especially the placement of the radio/heater controls. I posted a thread on this site about it about two weeks ago.

It had 4 doors that opened the same as my crewcab....but it wasn't the megacab like the Dodge.

the tundras have either the double cab or crew max, and the double cab is what you sat in. the back seats are kinda like the dodge rams, a little too small to be considered "full-size". now the crew max will be like the dodge mega cab monster, reclining seats, foot massager, etc. i sat in one of the double cabs at a local auto show, and yeah, they are too small to compete with the titan.

I don't care for that move by toyota. The crewmax forces you into a small bed, and that defeats the purpose... So to get the bed I want, I have to sacrifice interior volume... lame. Might as well go buy a GMC 2500HD and get both interior room and bedspace?

And the Duramax/Allison combo Of course cost was what forced me away from that

well, if cost was the issue last year (or before) then take a gander at the 2007 models... You can get a 6.0L gas-powered truck with the 6-spd (6L90) auto trans.... All without the extra cost of the diesel/allison combo.

The same thing can be said of the Titan CC, except you get more interior room with the Tundra CM.

Not to hijack the thread, but I've never been impressed with the GM 6.0L and I don't know much about the 6L90. To be quit honest, I'd put the Titan up against the 6.0L any day. A few more horses, but compare the torque. We all know about that GM "gearing for gas mileage" don't even get me started on the prices
u guys are going to kill me for this one but i really like the ford f250 harley davidson. as i was driving by the dealer yest they had it outside as their display car and man that thing looks nice i dont know about the engine but it looks good.
now back to the tundra by the way i finally saw one the other day at the body shop for some reason when i saw it it reminded me of a train.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.
troll troll troll your boat... The 2500HD would have 4.10 gears so that's not a "gas mileage" gear... and there's loads of torque.
