Bad Accident

I saw this on CNN took a screenshot, this is nuts. This was, from the wheels, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, happened in Indiana. I've always thought that that dinky little bar that trucks have to stop cars from sliding under them is useless...

Wow. I wonder if the JGC driver ever even hit the brakes? Dang. That's bad.

that d.o.t. bar isnt going to do anything going at a high rate of speed, i drive for a living and had this happen to me once someone following too closely went right under my truck wasnt a pretty sight.

Re: Bad Accident

True on the bar being useless at high speed, but even at low speed... I've been behind trucks at light and I've often thought that the bottom of the bar would only first hit my car in the middle to upper half of my hood....at that point...I'm going under.

This case, clearly that jeep was FLYING.

Re: Bad Accident

youch... my dad has driven for over 27 years now, owns a trucking company, when i was younger and would ride with him we'd see all kinds of ****.. nothing like this though. being a volunteer figherfighter and running highway accidents i've also seen some pretty bad ****, but this one takes the cake for sure.... even if he had his tandem slid back i think it'd still be pretty messy.

just a body recovery..

Re: Bad Accident

Reminds me of that greyhound bus on the NY thruway that was split in half from hitting the trailer. They can take a beating and I am sure the driver of the Tractor Trailer is not feeling so well, even if it is not his own fault. Did they say if the trucker was parked on the side of the road? I know this happend alot kind of like a mirage effect where a drowsy or not paying attention driver thinks the truck is moving and then BAM.

Re: Bad Accident

The fiance' of a good friend of mine died that way in the mid 90's. It was a dreadful accident. She was decapitated. The horror of that death drove my buddy to a drinking binge that lasted for years. For that reason, I stay away from semi trucks- you just can't see in front of them.

That wasn't the first car hit, this Ford F-250 was hit from behind by a semi that didn't realize traffic was stopped:
